      New Mask

Hi TF, I'm so happy you finally found a mask that suits you--sounds like you are sleeping well. AHI of 1 is great. My latest check up had an AHI of 1.8--everything else was normal except for a few small mask leaks just as I am waking up. Hope you continue to do well. xxBerneta

        Chicken or egg

        Hi Berneta

A few small leaks, a small rise in pulse, a little peak in SpO2 just as we are waking up. I would love to know if those things happen because we are waking or if those things are what wake us.

Even more, I'd like to know why I wake 95%-ish at 7am five years into retirement.

It does look similar in principle to the ZZZ masks I have used in the past but hopefully a stronger design.

My ZZZ,s dont like being sat on and have had to repair them with heat shrink tubing.
One thing I disliked with the ZZZ was that air would blast straight into my mouth rather than filling the mask.Does the FX feel that its doing the same.
I dont notice this effect on my F&P Forma

            Chicken or Egg?

Hi TF--can't tell you if we have those changes because we are waking up-- or waking because we have those changes. I suspect the changes are the result of going into a waking state. Now about the waking at 7 AM --that can just be because as we get older we need less sleep--or it may be because of something else entirely. I think our brain has its own alarm clock, or we may just be responding to habits we form. I wake every morning at 3:30 AM (And never set an alarm clock) and check my blood sugar--and usually its low at that time, so I down some orange juice. It doesn't seem to matter what time I go to sleep either--3:30 rolls around and I am wide awake. And sometimes my blood sugar isn't low at all. I just think my brain knows that I have dangerous sugar lows and protects me by waking me at that time. The first law of Nature is Self Preservation.
Now for that Chicken and Egg thing. Every farmer can tell you that eggs will rot if there is no hen to control their temp, soak them with water, and turn them now and then, So the Chicken came first (but may not have looked like the chickens we have today)---then came the egg which hatched because it was properly cared for. All the eggs in hatcheries are cared for with the right temp. humidity, and turning in order for them to hatch. The temp thing continues in the first week--because baby chicks will die if they get too cold. Hence a mother hen cuddles chicks under her feathers to keep them warm. Here at home we use heat lamps to keep the baby chicks we buy warm. They also have to be taught to drink by dipping their beaks into water, Otherwise they die of dehydration. Chickens I know about--wish I knew all about our brains and why we do the things we do, and don't do. I wonder if me waking at 3:30 every morning and you waking at 7 is just a chemical thing--or something more that we can't possibly understand. Our Brains are kinda like Wonderland--who can understand the Mad Hatter? LOL XOX Berneta

              I'll have to agree

              Hi silvercarper

If a Ford Focus looks like a Silver Cloud - wheel in each corner, etc - then I'll have to agree that a Quattro FX looks like a Zzz Mask.

The design concept is utterly different, from its hard shell, removeable cushion to the headgear attachment spider.

The reason I'm raving about the Quattro FX is that it is utterly different to any other I have experienced and want others to know of this fantastic new product. My sleep has improved so much since I started using the mask. It's not going to suit everyone, but it has to be worth asking at your clinic!

But if you want it to be the same as a Zzz, then, for you, it is.

                Hi Berneta

Did you see 'Eat Pray Love'? It doesn't answer the chicken and egg thing, either, but it does ask similar questions, albeit in a sanitised way.

Where can I find out about these clinics - where are they?
My NHS hospital just gave me my kit and said 'come back in 18 months'.
I would really like to try other masks but not prepared to pay that sort of money on spec.

Resmed and Respironics do them - maybe others but I don't know. Look on their web sites for the nearest one to you - which may not be near, at all. Abingdon and Chichester are the ones I use.

                              Straps

isnt there a chance of the straps covering the eyes?

I take it then if you do have one of these then the straps behave themselves and dont move around? Looks a bit close to the eyes?

Looks like the frame is shaped to bring the straps down and away from the eyes, and it sits low on the nose anyway so I'm hoping the pressure from the seal is mostly to the chin and cheeks. It's very small!
