Hi Guys,
After a wait of 3 weeks I called the lab today to ask what I should be doing as it is a long wait till the end of May for my results. The nurse at the time said I still had aponeas but would say no more than that.
I just got a call back and guess what......
I don't need the cpap any more!!
I still have to go back and talk to the consultant but they have asked that I return my machine.
I am feeling quite mixed about it all, there is a kind of security when you use it, but nice to know I don't have to.
I want to keep with the forum, I feel that you have all helped in a variety of ways that by not using it I will lose friends, am I weird?
Love to all

Fantastic! Brilliant! Pink balloons all round!
Hi Lorraine
Oh! well done you! Fantastic news that you don't need CPAP anymore! I can well understand your mixed feelings, though - such an important and persistent part of your life might need a ceremony of some sort to let go.
Please look in when you feel the need - support comes in many guises for the many needs we have.
You have given me serious food for thought! Maybe I need to revisit the bariatric surgery idea again (currently half of it is a new kitchen ceiling and back-door).
Good luck with the next part of your life!

Thanks Guys,
It is going to be really weird tonight, I just hope I sleep instead of worrying that I might still have aponeas.
I will let you know tomorrow what my night was like. It's like sleeping with someone for the first time, all those nerves and worries! LOL
Sweet dreams

Congrats!
Hi Lorraine--I am so happy to hear that you are doing well, and no longer need the CPAP. I wish weight was all of the problem for all of us--but alas not so. I agree you need a Big Pink Party--with all the Pretty Pink Trimmings! Hope things in your life go well from now on! XOX BernetaAttached Files

Can't say I like sleeping without the cpap.
I spent most of the night awake, got up for an hour and watched telly then layed in bed again listening to the news every hour.
I had the same when I had the chest infection, I didn't use the cpap and had terrible sleepless nights.
Perhaps there is something about the security of the mask and listening to yourself breathing.
I just about managed at work today but many more nights like this and I won't be able to cope.
Now I feel miserable and tired.

Well, I can offer the usuall advice from the forum to help
...try not using your mask and machine while watching tv, to give yourself time to get used to it before you go to sleep
get into a routine of not putting you mask and machine on...routines help
And if you need advice on how to not maintain the mask you are not now needing, there is loads on the forums...
can I just check, are you not using distilled water or not using tap water in the humidifier you are no longer using...

Well, Laughter is the best medicine, and I just couldn't resist
Seriously though, I hope you get used to it soon. I know the couple of nights I have had without my machine when it has broken down were hell...the psychological thing of associating wearing it with having a good nights sleep is as big as the actual therapy.
Me, I'm just struggling with sleep for other reasons at the moment, and finding that CPAP isn't as effective when you have to sleep flat on your back.Last edited by Fredxx; 23 March 2011, 19:06.

Sleepless
Hi Lorraine. You know what they say "Old Habits Die Hard". You will probably have to go through the withdrawal-- just like if you had stopped smoking, or coffee, or stopped a medicine. Try to NOT take short naps. That might help make you tired enough to sleep at night. You'll probably have several tired days before you finally get into the sleep pattern without the CPAP. You might try a sleep aid for a short time. Keep us informed--and try playing some soft music at night. Good Luck, x Berneta
