    Hi CountyDownMum,
I have lost 2 stone 3lbs in the last 8 weeks, pretty much on target and I am feeling really good. Have loads more energy and no longer snore if I fall asleep without my 'gear' on.
I slept all of Tuesday night without it on (because I was rather sick) but when I did sleep I am informed that I didn't snore then either.
This doesn't mean that I am going to stop using it because I know that it is important to use it to keep other bits of me healthy. But what it does show is that weight is a factor and a big one at that.
    Good luck witht he exercises

      Feeling better?

      Hi Lorraine

How are you? Was that sickness to do with the surgery, or something you ate? I remember Puffin saying he couldn't eat sugar after the op because it played havoc with his digestion.

      Hope all is settled down.

        Hiya,
I think it was eating prawns too quickly and not chewing them properly.
I know about the sugar dumping, I tried it first hand and it is not nice but this was just me forgetting about the surgery.
I always seem to learn things the hard way!

Still it will all be worthwhile when I am a mere waif

        Happy days

            Hi Alibongo,
I had surgery to aid the weight loss. Some may say it is extreme but it was soooo worth it and I would have it done again tomorrow if I had to. Best decision I have ever made!
In the process of losing weight I have discovered a few things that I wish I had known when I was dieting. I may not have given up so easily and been more successful.

            1. Eat small and often, 6 meals a day. Breakfast, snack, lunch, snack, dinner, snack. Portion control is very important. No more than a ramakin dish for each meal.

            2. Concentrate on eating proteins first. They fill you up more and you need them for lots of things. ie: eggs, fish, white meat and low fat cheeses.

            3. If you hit a plateau do NOT give up, your fat breaks down in layers and then sheds it. Your weight loss can stop for ages then have a sudden larger loss.

            4. Drink at least 2 litres of water a day or (as I do) a half pint glass every hour. This carries the fat out of your body, without it you will stop losing so much.

            Good luck!

              wow Lorraine

You are very brave to go through with surgery, don't think i could do that have gall bladder surgery and 2 sections is enough for me!

I am really needing to lose weight before i get any bigger ..i too am trying to concentrate on protein and cutting down on carbs ..i'm looking at low gi and low carb recipes etc...i have given up caffeine (changed brand of tea ) my next step is up my water intake and more exercise! and need to also keep in mind what i want to achieve ..being slim and fitter more energy and hopefully not having to used mask!

Thanks for your info I'll try the water thing now!

Well if it encourages anyone else I can't exercise because of a health issue but I have lost 1 st 6 lb in 7 weeks since taking up a diabetic diet. The diabetes really focused things, basically I have to lose weight and that's that. I keep the diet simple and had only one week when I didn't lose anything. I'm not hungry but I do miss cheese and beer. If I reach my target I'm going to a brewery on holiday...

aww 1lb isn't a lot, that can happen normally anyway and after losing a lot of weight i think it's normal to reach a plateau, well done for losing so much.

Thanks for all the replies, I havn't been on here for ages. I lost 14lbs before christmas but have put on around 7 lbs since then. I am eating much healthier than i used to and have moved house which gives me a good 40 minute walk to work so i do that and back most days. My problem is unhealthy snacks in the evening so i'm trying ways to get round that by having fruit or plain popcorn instead. I don't want to "diet" as such because i think that can cause you to want what you "can't" have so i'm trying to eat as healthy as i can for the rest of my life. I've stopped eating ready meals and now cook everything from scratch, sometimes i batch cook and freeze a load of meals for lunches and dinners. I feel I'm still on the right track and want to take my time losing the next 2 1/2 stone so that it feels natural and less likely to pile on again if that makes sense.

There are other little tricks...If you want some chocolate, have dark, high cocoa fat chocolate...it has less bad fats and sugar, and you are satisfied after only a little bit

Depending on what you think of as 'a little bit', of course! As I have started the bar, I shall finish the bar.

I think stretching exercises are very basic and very simple for weight loss.
It would be similar to any stretching you would do earlier
to strong exercise. I was told to do the stretching right before
bed as it relaxes the muscles.

                                My Goal

June 1, 2011 -- Weight loss is an effective long-term treatment for patients with sleep apnea who are overweight or obese, a study shows.
Obesity is a major risk factor for obstructive sleep apnea, which is a serious sleep disorder that causes people to stop breathing for short periods repeatedly -- sometimes hundreds of times -- during the night.
In 2009, researchers from Sweden's Karolinska Institute showed that overweight and obese men who lost weight on a severely calorie restricted diet over nine weeks had big improvements in their sleep apnea symptoms.
In their newly published follow-up, the researchers report that the improvements were largely maintained over the next year, even though some patients regained much of the weight they had lost.
"Our earlier findings proved the principle that weight loss improves sleep apnea, but the criticism was that the patients would not be able to maintain the weight loss or these improvements," Karolinska Institute associate professor of clinical epidemiology Martin Neovius, PhD, tells WebMD.

This is my way of curing OSA!
