Got a serious waggy finger for high blood sugars and no interest at all in the socks. They can do no harm, he says - which vibes with anyone wearing them on a long flight.

I still like them and they put a spring in my step - novelty or change?

What do the stats say? Any significant change?

I wore them for seven or eight hours yesterday. The six person study was over seven days. Besides, the socks don'y have an Intus logo!

It was a night of my Quattro FX slipping with Quattro headgear but between two leaky wakings and the alarm this morning I had very lively and vivid dreams - far more than usual. But no stats as yet!

Still no stats but the best night in months, ages, a long time.

I'm charging the oximeter so should have some numbers tomorrow.

You make that sound like you have to mount a huge pedaling contraption for a day which pumps boiling lava to the surface, heating up water which powers a steam engine which in turn generates electricity to charge the oximeter. Then again, you can make flight socks sound awesome.

            Keen on the stats!

No, no, no! You're talking about my desktop computer. The oximeter I just plug into the National Grid - stepped down, of course.

I think un-boiling lava is called rock or pumice - either way, very difficult to pump!

                Too hot for long socks?

Might give them a try in the winter; just a few days away if this week is anything to go by.

Itzy-kitzy. Not a bad night at all, at all - but not fantastically brilliant, either.

Stats are from an oximeter and so not directly equivalent to AHI:

Event Index 1.6; Basal sat 94%; Av BPM 75.0.

I don't consider that to be a statistically significant difference from usual, but it's not bad and is a second consecutive night of better than usual sleep. Two may still be coincidence, three would be a sock-lead improvement.

                  Is anyone still awake?

                    Hi TF,
Dont you find the socks too hot?
On another note, what oximeter do you use? I Still haven't decided if it is worth getting one.

                    Cheers

                      Bright Eyed

Hi TF-I'm wide awake, and checking on your results every day. IF the socks put a spring in your step, well that alone is worth something. I could put up with the heat-- if they did that. DO they help with pain or numbness caused by your diabetes, and are your glucose highs coming down? Seems like the socks might also help with that? Keep us informed. I can see where it might takes several nights to get any conclusive stats about what's going on healthwise. xx Berneta

How can socks be too hot in this weather???? I wear my normal cotton socks over the man-made-stuff compression socks. And yes, either that combination and/or improved circulation caused by the compression keeps my feet warm enough for the diabetic neuropathy pains not to kick in (my feet always have been warm to the touch but feel - what my brain tells me is happening - like broken, frozen bones if they are in a cool environment). The compression socks seem to have changed all that.

My oximeter is on the end of a long probe lead - so the oximeter is under my pillow and the lead snakes down to my finger tip. A wrist-band and a finger-band of Velcro cable tie keep the whole thing in place no matter how much I turn. It's a Contec CMS60C.

An oximeter is an economical way of getting the data you need to be able to adjust your PAP machine. Symmit has today posted his 'before' and 'after' stats and shows what can be achieved - making an oximeter very well worthwhile. But if you are not prepared to spend the time and effort in obtaining the data and adjusting your machine, an oximeter would be a waste of money. What would you do with a £70 lottery win - oximeter, new pink mask, something else entirely?

I was in bed before I remembered the oximeter - so no readings again.... but..... not only a third consecutive night of very good quality sleep, but the best yet!!

So in a sample of one over a study period of three nights, it definatley looks like wearing compression socks through the day reduces AHI each night.

Until one remembers! Wasn't it about three nights ago that I gave up with using the right headgear for my Quattro FX and fitted Quattro headgear instead?

Do I care which is having the effect? NO! I don't! As long as I get the effect, I'm a very happy bunny.

                            Socks or Mask?

Hi Happy Bunny, could be the combination of the two that are improving your night's sleep. For whatever reason --I am happy for you. Nothing like a good nights sleep. I have found over the years that when my sugar is high I sleep poorly and ache all over. Maybe you have discovered the answer to the diabetes pain? Anxious to hear how you are doing two weeks from now. Good Luck--hope your improvements continue. XOX Berneta

All very interesting. The socks might be worth it just as a general health precaution. In his last years my late father wore them as his COPD (caused by working down a coal mine for 40 years) contributed to congestive heart failure and he was prone to oedema of the ankles. The stockings, plus medication and diuretics kept him going and pretty active to the age of 91. He died from a sudden heart attack after eating his usual Friday lunch of fish and chips.

Have you given it serious thought as to how these stockings are going to be held up?
I have undergarments that might help, just state your colour and I will post them off to you.
