  • Weight watchers Pro Points

Since January this year the weight watchers meeting I go to in N.I. has started using pro points. I find this to be a much more accurate way of knowing what I eat. I have got myself a special calculator into which I list protein, carbs, fat and fibre of all I eat and it tells me how many pro points I have used. I am allowed 29 pro points each day and hope to lose around 2 - 3 lbs. per week.

It is good crack at the meeting and there are all ages of members, young ladies some bring their young children and babies to elderly folk but we all have one goal in mind. We all want to be fitter and lose weight the proper healthy way. Since losing some weight and using CPAP therapy my health and breathing has improved a lot. I like to listen to the other girls and there are a few men too to learn how they are getting on and perhaps get some tips from them. Sometimes our leader Anne brings us some weight watcher recipes she has printed out for us to attempt at home.

It is essential to have good lifestyle because of all the benefits to health.

    Fond memories

I have many many many fond memories of N.I. I always remember my reaction when I was told I was going there (NO WAY!) Its an amazing place, I was very sad to leave when the time came but theres one thing I never understood, why do you get coleslaw with everything lol, staid in a pub in Ballyclare and travelled all over N.I. working, never forget the time one of the soldiers stuck a gun in my face almost had to get changed, wanted to kick the guy senseless but thought I would give him a break as he only looked about 14 lol Love the emerald isles

      Memories of N.I.

I have always lived in N.I. in east Belfast. I have found it great place to live and have relatives in County Down, Portavogie and Newtownards also Bangor.
My niece Alison lives outside Ballyclare at a place called Tildarg and all the scenery is very nice too.

Hope you keep well, all the best.

        Hi Mum

Just wanted to check in with you and see how you are doing with the Weight Watchers, swimming, etc. I tried Weight Watchers once here in the states, and didn't like the attitude of the woman who was running it--she was more concerned with extreme exercise which, I thought was unsafe for a lot of the people in her classes. I think I may try the Zumba dance and dieting, That looks like fun to me. Anyway Spring will be here soon and I can do some walking outside. Right now we still have huge snow drifts taller than me! Hope you are doing ok with the machine, and all is going well. x Berneta

          Losing weight and getting fitter.

Hello Berneta, I am still going to a weekly meeting for Weight watchers the leader Ann is very nice and I have got to know the other ladies who attend the meeting. I find it
helps me and encourages me to keep going. Now I have lost some weight I think it is helping my sleep apnea and also my walking has improved.
The zumba dance class started on Friday 6pm - 7pm and is good fun it is energetic dancing to latin american themed music. 1hr is long enough for the class.
I also go to our local leisure center and use the equipment in the fitness suite as well as attending aqua aerobics and fit classes. This has all helped me especially as I have 2 total hip replacements.

I am sure you will be glad when all that snow goes away it sounds really cold and bad. Take care and I hope you are keeping well. Sheila xxx

            Snow in Illinois

Hi Berneta, I was reading about the snow being taller than you in height. Today on the national news I saw a truck with a huge pile of snow on top of it traveling on the freeway in Illinois. Suddenly the snow slipped off the top of the truck and the car behind and the surrounding vehicles were all blinded by the snow. The police had to give the truck driver a strong telling off.
I hope you are keeping well. Regards Sheila

              Truck Problems

HI Sheila--truck drivers are being warned to clean off the tops or get fined. Had one driver go under a low overpass and the snow piled on top nearly caused a wreck. Heard on a news channel that there were 5 Simi Trucks involved in a wreck in Arkansas because of snow blowing off the top of one, and blinding everyone near. You'd think they would have brains enough to know to clean off the tops! Of course some have brains clouded by untreated Sleep Apnea. Over here they don't have to report anything to the license dept. They only ask a driver if they take a medicaion that might make driving unsafe. They have NO control over drivers who have OSA.
The Zumba Classes sound like fun--I am going to get the video and give it a try. Also thinking about joining a gym. Are you having a hard time with the dancing because of the hip replacements? Hope you are doing well, and sleeping well too. x Berneta

                Zumba Dance Class

Hi Berneta, I am managing very well and find that with going to the fitness suite regularly and doing aqua aerobics a few times a week this has made my legs stronger. I really am enjoying the zumba class which I go to with my sister and can keep up with the fast music well. I am still continuing to lose weight which also helps me.

My walking has improved and I have become less stiff.

                  Zumba

Hi Sheila, glad to hear that you aren't having any problems with the dancing. Seems like I have been recovering from the torn ankle ligaments forever--I haven't done much walking and find I need to strengthen my legs too. The ankle is getting on fine now--so I am ready to get some weight bearing exercise, and the Zumba Dance sounds good to me. IF I get the Video and do it at home, then I can always sit down if I need to. I have been mostly sitting around since November and its time to get things moving again. Good luck on the weight loss and have good day. x Berneta

                    Zumba

Hello Berneta, I enjoyed the class with Yvonne my sister on Friday night. We wore a sleeveless sports top and tights as you need cool clothes to dance in.

I think a DVD of Zumba would be good for you indeed I use the USA version of the Biggest Loser on DVD as it gives me inspiration. I attempt most of the exercises and can rest if I need to. Good luck and look after yourself.

                      Treadmill

Hi Shelia, I got a great surprise this morning. My Hubby bought me an elec treadmill for Valentine's Day. He knew I have been concerned about getting enough exercise. Going to start out slow-5 or 10 min a time several times a day. Then I will increase the time gradually. I am a happy cookie. Have a Happy Valentine's Day. x Berneta

                        Treadmill and getting fitter

Hello Berneta, Thats a super present and just take it gradually. I can do 10 mins at 4 mph level 5, this is a slight elevation to strengthen my legs. I like the fitness suite as I can go at my own pace. Your hubby can take a turn too.
Have a good day. Lots of love Sheila.

                            Treadmill

Hi Sheila, Nope--the hubby can't use my treadmill at all. He is 6'5' tall and weighs more than the 350 limit on the treadmill. I told him he should have gotten one he could use too--and he told me he gets plenty of exercise walking when shopping, hunting. doing chores, gardening, playing pool, etc. In April he will start delivering plants to stores for the Greenhouse and Flower Cottage that he drives for every Spring. HE is retired at age 58--with a nice Pension from the Iowa State Prison---but refuses to just sit around doing nothing. He is a very healthy big guy---the exception to the rule. Sleeps well and gets around great. Right now he is remodeling my kitchen. Does great carpentry work. I almost have to run just to keep up with him! LOL x Berneta
