This has probably been discussed before, but I can't find anything. What is the most effective way to avoid or learn to avoid sleeping on your back? I know about the tennis ball method, and an improvement on that is supposed to be a vest with a bolster built into the back (advantage being you don't have to wash it as often), and I have heard that 4-6 weeks "training" is necessary for success. Has anyone had any any experience with these techniques?

Front--Back--Side
Hi--I always sleep on my side, Never on my back. During my sleep study I was told that just a minute on my back, and I turn to the side. The being on my back corresponded to slower breathing. Guess over the years I learned that while back sleeping --I just don't get enough oxygen, so I just naturally don't do it. I think the tennis balls would really hurt and leave marks--maybe something a little uncomfortable would work. Like some rough Rope sewn onto the back of a shirt or some crinkled layers of Duct Tape. Or a tiny firm pillow fastened on with velcro. Just a few ideas. You could even try a small buzzer or squeaker that responds to pressure to train you to turn over. You can probably find those in a Craft Store. Good Luck. x Berneta

Hi Apappy
I've tried tennis balls, shirts with air bags in the back, etc and they all fail because they wake you up when it's time to turn over.
Best but one was a bolster pillow snuggled into my back.
Best of all, long term solution, was to get used to the idea that sometimes I sleep on my back. If I don't wake, who cares about back sleeping? If I wake because of back sleeping, I roll onto my side and go back to sleep.
The greatest PAPing technique by far is to be relaxed, accept what is and stop trying to solve "problems". In time, you will get used to PAPing. Worrrying and problem solving will not shorten that time. Worrying may well extend it.
