For long enough, I had been sleeping very adequately with my NHS CPAP set at 17 cm H2O constant, no relief, just ramp. A week ago I started waking twice each night and taking eight hours to get seven hours sleep.

Last night, I used my APAP with 'A'-Flex, min 10, max 18 and woke twice, once with APAP gale. One night stats confirm 90% pressure of 16 (so CPAP 17 should catch most events) with a 3 A and 4 H to give 7 AHI (which confirms my experience of 'not bad but could be much better' sleep). Zero leakage. 11 VSI. Oximeter on its way from Beijing.

Is this punishment for being a bah humbugger or am I missing something, subtle or obvious?

On the other hand, I'd quite forgotten what a lovely ride it is with APAP and Pur-Sleep wafting rather than being force fed.

If nothing else appears, I'll try a Les Waller and change masks as well as machine, but I do love my Quattro.

Do you have any ideas on why you happen to need such a high pressure? How are you in terms of side/back sleeping etc?

You could turn on both devices and join the hoses at the mask

Are you moving around alot at night? Im still trying to figure out why my P. readings go from 9.2 to 11.6 on different days. I have also noted that if I sleep still and remain on my side my readings are low and I feel good in the mornings but a high P. reading means yawning by T-Time. Im now thinking of setting up my camera's to see whats happening physically. I think at this rate I will have my own sleep lab within a few years, just need to find a nurse

As a relative newbie, CPAP at 17 still scares me!

I'm finding side sleeping is a big difference for me, the more overweight one is the more difference it can make.

Is there a response speed setting on the APAP - I upped mine a notch and it responds quicker to events and that was my key to getting from AHA >4 to AHA <1 without going OTT on the pressure (I was having difficulty acclimatising to >10 hPa)

Just switched mine from Auto to "flexline" which on mine has a midpoint value and a variance, so I'm now set for 11 +/- 2, giving 9 on the exhale and 13 on the inhale. Problem with that is the software on the unit doesn't give the same stats any more so I'm reliant on the oximiter now for effectiveness (and seeing if I drop to sleep in the evenings) - so will report back when I've downloaded.

          Hmmmmmm ....

          Hi James

Do you sell 'Y'-pieces - can't find them on your website. Double the volume and halve the pressure? Where can I get a mask re-bore?

I forgot to mention - the duvet suggests I've started moving and kicking but I've no idea which is the chicken and which the egg - disturbed sleep or movement. Last night's gale awakening was on my back. Please don't anyone mention tennis balls!

The 17 cm comes from 90% when I changed from APAP to CPAP and has crept up with time - and my weight, probably - from 15. I was 90% 16 last night.

          Hi Symmit

Mine is an older machine than yours - discontinued by Phillips since Respironics brought out their new range. I sure would like to be able to adjust the response time - especially in the down pressure algorithm. I went to CPAP to confound the up pressure reponse time.

I'm habitually a mouth-breathing - hence VSI of 11 - side-sleeper, but have restless nights like everyone. But eight consecutive ones?

One more night of this and it's Ultra time. I'm that desparate! Not waking many mornings as if I still have to go to the office would help.
