"Cheapskate" - correct usage, TF. It is one word now but comes from a combination of "cheap" and "skate" (old meaning, colloquial - "to shirk one's duty") hence cheapskate = one too mean to pay their fair share. It was originally used more specifically in this way and then spread to a more generalised use as "miserly".

I have heard this use of "skate" attributed to 19th Century America but my Grandmother (b 1901) used a Scottish word that sounded like "skite" (no, I was not mis-hearing a "k" instead of an "h" for "lazy". (yes, when describing me before you ask!)

Slightly older machines than yours (like mine) have AHI data in all the menus. My guess is that as accessing the Clinician's Menu became common knowledge, the makers hid the clinical data a bit deeper.

OR

NHS machines have simplified data collection and storage programmes and AHI has been dropped. The NHS is anly interested in the ridiculously low compliance data being achieved. We'd be safe to drive on four hours sleep per night?????

Options

There is an option on machines where you can set it up so that all data can only be viewed by data download onto card and if this is enabled you cant read any data. Its the same with mine, I am now trying to contact my hospital tech to see if they will allow me to get a card and retrieve my own data

That seems ridiculous TF but then again nearly everyone I know has driven over the limit at some time or another/ Most people refuse to believe that they exceed the alcohol limit "the morning after", even if they've been up drinking past midnight. Then you get people who drive with hangovers or drive all night and through the next day. I am not saying this makes driving with OSA and four hours sleep OK, I'm just saying that the average "bar" in the country is set very low as far as safe driving goes - without even taking into account deliberate drink/drug drivers or people you wouldn't trust with a toy car far less a real one.

I remember reading years ago that during the Vietnam War more Americans died in road accidents than in the war; one horrific loss of life was nightly headline news, the other just seemed to be accepted. That acceptance of the dangers of the road seems widespread, sadly.

It seems that you need ResScan software to read all the info. It is available on the net all I need now is the data cable which I will be asking the hospital about this week. If I get the ok then I will be up and running with charts comming out of my ears lol

Sparticus - why do I bother? you do it on purpose, I'm convinced - your 'data cable' cost £1.50-ish at any computer shop. Cards Readers come a bit more expensive.

What seems ridiculous, Nuki? The four hours compliance figure? It's not really about safe driving, now is it? It's about NHS being able to report that their OSA programme has a whatever-high % compliance rate so there is nothing needing to be done to improve the service.

Oh I so want to screem. If it was that easy dont you think a man as qualified as me in computing ie. I can build them from bloody scratch but I cant figure out want the hell kind of connector I need to plug into my machine, there is no USB, I now have the same software as they use in hospital has its freely available on the net. Resmed have told me that they wont sell the things I need only to hospitals as you need to be able to interpret the data. Why are we classed as idiots? Do they think that because we are not trained that a chart cant be read without expert knowledge, its horsemuck I tell you and its my data
