  • Results from Machine - but what do they mean?

    Following Tiger Fans' advice I have looked at the stats of my machine (had it about 3 and a half weeks so if there is a monthly figure it will not be a full month)

    top right using + sign followed by arrow I get:

    151.9
    2 (with a small range of mountain tops drawn in the top corner)
    6.0 cm H20

    top left using + sign followed by arrow I get:

    184.3
    10 ( with a podgy egg timer>4 above it)
    20258 with a tick above it.

    Which may all be very interesting for all I know as I, erm, haven't a clue what they mean. Can anyone help?

    Nukk, why dont you ask the company that runs the forum for a detailed explanation, try Pming or asking direct. If that fails try Pm'ing TF he may be able to help you.

      Better yet, download the User Manual from Respironics website.

      I don't understand why they use symbols instead of words, let alone what the symbols are supposed to represent. I'm not dumbed-down enough, I guess!

            Knowing you are well is all that matters really, just some of us have a fascination with the actual nuts and bolts. I have a performance meter for my car, I know it's actual 0-60 and power outputs not just what the manual says. I have performance metering on my broadband and usage metering and QoS. I get itemised phone bills. I have power metering on my electricity supply.

            Other people just put petrol in and drive, just surf the net, and trust what the electric meter reads. To each their own (to coin a phrase)

            At the moment I download my data daily from my CPAP because I'm still contacting my sleep tech regularly (actually, every 2-3 days now) - but even so it's fascinating to see what the machine (being an auto) is doing in reaction to what my body is doing.

            AHI at test - 51. AHI last night - 2. Those are the only numbers that matter as far as the condition is concerned.

                Now cars are different all together as I know that mine is limited to 155, I guess I can get round this but doing these kinds of speed costs a fortune. Broadband, I have the fastest in the country and am not fooled by what the companys say about speeds as I also check mine (Upgrading to 100MEG in next few months) So I guess I too like to check the nuts and bolts........Where's my manual

                  100 meg - I dream of 100 meg. 5 meg down 1 meg up here, and that's about the fastest on the street.

                  So - opening up my software for the CPAP and accessing the saved data

                  from the last 7 days:

                  AHI 1.8, lowest 0.4, highest 5.1
                  Average pressure 7.9hPa, max 11hPa
                  Longest uninterrupted session 7hr 17 min
                  Most use in one night 9h 19min

                    It's the AHI I am looking for, Sparticus.

                    I did download a manual, TF but it was less than helpful in fingding the AHI

                    Thanks Symmit - well done, far more info than I got from the manual I found.. but I still don;t know the one thing I was looking for - the AHI

                    I did reset the ramp from 4 to 6 following advice and it helped

                      Reading the manuals it looks like the M series only reads AHI on the auto machines

                        Ah, that explains it then - thanks for trying - it would have been better if I had downloaded the manual rather than a quick set-up guide....

                          Then it will be in the secret data within the top secret, for the eyes of medical people only, Clinicians' Menu.

                          Or maybe not - my NHS M CPAP has only pressures and hours even in the secret side - and on the smart card, only running hours. (Cheap skates!) (Is that the right sort of skate for the expression - I've no idea where it comes from?)

                            There is a hidden menu that you dont know about, I came across an article that was really good.

                            Respironics REMstar M Series:
                            To get into the clinician's setup mode in a REMstar M Series CPAP machine or a BiPAP M Series CPAP machine follow these steps:

                            1. unplug the power cord from the back of the CPAP machine
                            2. hold down both the left and right arrow keys while simultaneously plugging in the power supply
                            3. once the device beeps twice, you can release the buttons

                            After you hear the two beeps, you'll see the word setup in the lower right corner of the LCD screen. When you select setup you'll be in the clinician's mode where you can adjust every feature of the CPAP machine, including the pressure setting. Below is the list of settings you can cycle through on a REMstar Plus M Series:

                            * CPAP Pressure (only in provider setup mode)
                            * Altitude
                            * Fine Pressure Adjustment (only in provider setup mode)
                            * C-Flex Setting
                            * Ramp Time
                            * Ramp Start Pressure
                            * Mask Alert
                            * Auto Off
                            * Patient Reminder (only in provider setup mode)

                            For all you tech heads out there heres the full story and the list.

                              Excellent detetective worlk Sparticus - now find the AHI

                              "Cheapskate" - correct usage, TF. It is one word now but comes from a combination of "cheap" and "skate" (old meaning, colloquial - "to shirk one's duty") hence cheapskate = one too mean to pay their fair share. It was originally used more specifically in this way and then spread to a more generalised use as "miserly".

                              I have heard this use of "skate" attributed to 19th Century America but my Grandmother (b 1901) used a Scottish word that sounded like "skite" (no, I was not mis-hearing a "k" instead of an "h" for "lazy". (yes, when describing me before you ask!)
