  • SleepWeaver Anew Full Face Cloth CPAP Mask

    Hi Chaps and Chapesses,

Have any of you tried the SleepWeaver Anew Full Face mask yet?

I'm currently using, or rather still trying to use, the ResMed Quattro Fx, which I find quite comfortable generally, with the occasional leak and the occasional absolutely incapacitating wind, that takes hours to get rid of!

Of greater concern is that 3 months on from getting my CPAP paraphanalia, I'm still not feeling the lurve - er, I mean the benefit. I am making myself lie there with mask on to get at least 4 hours under my belt and I clearly am getting some sleep, as it shows an AHI, somewhat variable. I even managed over 5 hours last night. But it's fragmented sleep - I was not a snorer, I was an insomniac! I wake up frequently, with between half an hour to an hour and a half asleep at a time. I doubt that my sleep quality is as yet much improved. As for dreams, what are they?

I'm persevering at least for now... DVLA have kindly just revoked my licence - even though I have never had a tiredness related accident / event and have not in fact driven since the dat of diagnosis. (And am now unlikely to do for a while!)

Rant over - now to get back on topic: I have heard a lot of praise and positive comments about the other SleepWeaver masks, and I wonder whether the Anew, being full face, might suit me. I think my problems with CPAP are partly to do with the mask, but mainly to do with the mind and the sleeping position. I just cannot switch off to fall asleep most times anyway, and I particularly cannot do so lying on my back. I used to fall asleep on my tum, with my head to the side, but CPAP has put paid to that; I'm still trying to find a way to get comfy and fall asleep with the mask and hose. I haven't a problem with accepting that I'll be on it for ever, I just want it to get me asleep. (Like the loving husband, who CPAP-less just rolls over and falls asleep within minutes...)

Any words of wisdom and/or experience will be gratefully received, particularly regarding the masks.

I wonder whether there will be any of the SleepWeaver Anew masks available at SATADay?

    Sorry Spartacus,

I get 'Nul Points' for observation...I didn't see your review of this mask right there in front of me! I blame the OSA...

I'll now read your post with interest..

You are in the early stages of CPAP. However, as you like sleeping face down - it's going to be difficult. Without any periods of lengthy sleep you are going to be missing out on dreaming and a proper resting cycle. All I can say is - keep persevering - it took me nearly three years before a break through. I now use the Sleepweaver Advance and sleep on average 7 hours a night with an average API of less than 3 and feel so much better...when you crack it - and you will - there will be a new dawning for you...

        Thanks Dravidio,

It's heartening to hear that although it took you so long to get used to it, you did eventually do so.

I tell myself that my new best friends are Darth Vader and Simethicone.

        I shall persevere!

Finding the right mask is by far the biggest challenge.
Once you get one that suits you it is by far the biggest battle.
Once you get a mask that is reasonably comfortable and does not leak at every turn you can get on a lot better and settle down to a good nights sleep.
Wake up feeling refreshed in the morning and ready to face the world.
Not one size and style, shape and type of mask will suit all.
You just have to keep trying until you get one that works for you.

Unfortunately, I don't think most Sleep Clinics appear to understand, or want to understand this.
The mask is the most important part of the kit, any machine will do the job, but the mask has got to fit the user.

              Yes, Sleep2Snore,

You're right, but I do understand that the Clinic staff must get fed up of wimps like me, who can't cope with CPAP, when so many others seem to take to it like a duck to water.

I clearly have the wrong shaped face...

                Hi Alical,

What everyone has said is right. It is completely normal to have to try a few masks first before finding one that is suitable, but once you do find one it will make things a lot easier! Try discussing the pros and cons of your current mask with your clinic to identify what may be more suitable or feel free to talk it further with us or anyone on the forum and we can offer some advice. If you do get on generally with your Quattro FX apart from leaks, you may want to consider trying mask liners perhaps.

Intus will be at SATAday and we should have the SleepWeaver Anew available along with various other products at discount prices on the day, so do feel free to come along and we can have a chat about anything you may want to ask. It would be good to see more of you at SATAday as well!

You could spend your life talking about mask and Ive tried a few of late but again I'm back to my old trusty Quattro. I guess its because I went through hell trying to get use to my cpap and that this is the one I go back to. I don't think I will be trying anymore unless a newer version of this comes out. Its seems that I did it back to front and stuck with my first mask, I did try the FX after a while but the mask itself is too short from nose to mouth in all its sizes.

I do hope that I can get to a SATAday soon as Im dying to meet the Intus group and finally put faces on these peeps. They deserve more than a pat on the back. keep up the great work guys

The postman delivered my Sleepweaver Anew about an hour ago, I will try it out later and hopefully use it tonight. The biggest problem I foresee is getting the seal right but I think it will be more comfortable than the Simplus...which I am struggling to get along with I have managed 5 hours at most. Fingers crossed for tonight........will report tomorrow.

Well I had a fairly comfortable night with the Sleepweaver Anew but it's not a mask you can put on and forget about it takes some trial and error to get it to seal right. When it's sealed correctly it's good but when the seal goes it's like sleeping in a wind tunnel the worst part seems to be the nose seal you would think that the company who manufacture this mask could come up with another method of sealing for the nose part. It also seems expensive for what it is ....I managed to get 6.8 hours , a nice green smiley face and an AHI of 1.8 . it also seems a snug fit I got the regular one and it's a bit of a tight fit for my nose.
