  • My machine is telling porkies

My S9 APAP is now showing that I have only used it for 11 days in 6 months which is completely wrong.
Looking at the SD card using Sleepyhead the data is there for the last year but for several days it was showing that my maximum pressure was - 12 thats MINUS 12.
I am concerned that as far as the APAP is concerned im not compliant but I have the Sleepyhead stats for the year.
I want to get my hospital to download the stats themselves from the SD card rather than what the APAP says. Would they be happy using the Sleepyhead stats which i have printed out
I have left a message on their answer machine so hopefully they will ring me back

    data

    Hi Silvercarper

An increasing nuber of Trust now use data from the sd card rather that simply the usage data from the CPAP machines themselves. I would imagine that if you have been supplied with a machine with the sd card in it, then they are likely to use Resmed's own software (rather than the Sleepyhead programme) to check usage, compliance, AHI, leakage etc etc.
    Regards

If they've got no record that they supplied the machine then I'll give you £20 for it.

My S9 is no longer recording data on the SD card and the details it gives for my night's sleep are rubbish too! (I am not using Sleepyhead) I have only had it for about 18 months. I have spoken to ResMed and am having to return it to them for service/repair.

Luckily I have a DeVillbis Sleep Cube I can use, otherwise I would be in big trouble although they say they will service/repair and return it within 24 hours of getting it!

Is it the size capacity of the card that is the problem? I don't have the same machine but after a year and a bit my machine stopped recording and gave weird averages.

Its quite likely that its full up as its been over a year since its been read and cleared.
On my last appointment at the Sleep Clinic ???? I took my machine in to be checked but they did not want to know. All the consultant did was to ask the Epworth questions and that was it

My sleep clinic give you a another machine every year with clean memory card. plus mask & tubing.
Apparently the machines require servicing every year so they just swap them out for serviced ones.

Silvercarper....you should be monitored by either a nurse, physiologist or physio led CPAP clinic who should be interested in your compliance etc. And supply you with masks, tubes, filters etc. The consultant normally relies on this kind of follow up rather than doing it themselves. Once you are established on CPAP there should be no reason for consultant review unless you are having other issues or have a Class 2. ( professional driver) license.

You should live in the real world Alleycat.
I have had to buy masks, filters, tubes and a humidifier.
My compliance has not been checked for nearly 2 years and I have to check this myself using Sleepyhead.
When I had a appointment for the consultant I took my machine with me but they REFUSED to check it as they said I needed a appointment.
I am getting fed up reading what service other people get when the service I get from my hospital is CRAP.

I think it is about 1 1/2 years since I last saw anyone at the CPAP clinic, and that was just to pick up some supplies. Last time I saw anyone who checked compliance, the machine etc. was about 4 years ago when I had to pick up a new machine when the old one broke down.

Do I see that as a problem...not at all. I know it is working for me as I am feeling fine. I occasionally check using a pulse oximeter I bought; that shows me the rpessure must be about right as there weren't any significant events. Basically, I know it is working, the hospital know I am happy with it, going for an annual appointment would basically just be a waste of my time and theirs.

Although I have had good service from both my sleep clinics, concern about such as possible disparity is one of the reasons I joined the Sleep Apnoea Trust Association (SATA). I think it important as an individual patient to make me part of a collective voice and have representation. In the latest edition of Sleep Matters (April 2013) there is a report of SATA making representations to NICE, having surveyed Primary Care Trusts in England to discover the extent to which they have complied with guidelines on CPAP. They have backed this up with communications to Sleep Clinics and MPs and the press, raising the profile of Sleep Apnoea and that disparity can exist.

Humidifier tanks, mask, filters for the machine - just basic stuff, although I often just buy it anyway, as it is cheaper for me than having to take a day off to go to the hospital.
