Fair point, I was thinking of the stereo-typical desert and beach scenario.

Any chance either of you can get some snazzy pictures up?

There's nothing to look at, it is just an ordinary hose with a wrap on it and a bit of wire with a plug sticking out of one end. It looks as if the americans are now stocking them - have a look at this link

Thanks for the link. Is it like the F&P hoses, where the heated wire is in the hose's plastic or is the heating wire in the wrap or in between both?

Cant really tell as the cloth wrap is plastic shrink sealed on to the hose at each end. It doesnt feel as if it is wrapped round the hose, but almost impossible to tell as a 12v~ high resistance heating wire would be very thin.

Not only is it cold in the winter, it feels freezing if you are accustomed to the Oz summer - not that feeling cold causes condensation. But sleeping in an air conditioned room in the hot,hot summer does!

However, I would still have expected this product to come out of Alaska, not Oz.

              Down Under Don says ....

The instructions that come with the heated hoses emphasise that one should not get the sleeve and outside of the hose wet. This leads me to believe that the heating element is wound outside the hose wall.

At £60 to £70, I would have expected the heating element to be built into the hose wall, along with the spiral spring, and thus be protected from moisture.

My earlier comment about the hoses looking home made are based on this. The sleeve is an integral part of the hose but cannot be washed. It not only insulates the air inside the hose,I suspect it also hides the glued on heating element from view.

Having said all this, the hoses still look like they will do the job and Les is getting good results. I have every confidence I shall be pleased with this expensive purchase.

I've gone down the cheapskate route and bought a Repti Heat cable as discussed here on CpapTalk:Cheap Heated Hose

Appears to be very effective and is only 15W. Picked one up on ebay for just over a tenner and it should be here soon.

I'll report back after I get the chance to use it.

Great idea, thanks for sharing the link. In that thread, a few people melted their hose so be careful with it but I guess it's worth a try.

I think there was only one who managed that feat? Appears that a part of the heated cable was left under the pillow allowing the heat to build up. In another thread someone bought the wrong wattage and managed to melt the entire hose. I'll really need to remember to switch the thing off every morning! I could get a timer I guess. But the majority of folk with the 15W one appear to report no problems after months of use.

Having used a similar device to aid beer fermentation, this looks to be something very similar.

I'd certainly advise people to be careful if they go down this route and read the threads on CpapTalk.

Here is a rather advanced setup with the Repti Heat cable.

cant speak for the Repti heating cable, but TigersFan and I bought the Australian ones (I think James can now supply them) and mine is fantastic, I use it every night and wouldnt be without it. I have on several occasions inadvertantly left it switched on all day with no problems of overheating

                            Omigod!

Tut, tut, Les - now we are going to get global meltdown, for sure, never mind repti-hoses! How un-green of you!!

Rain drops definately do not fall in my mask ever since I began using a heated hose. They are just plain absolutely brilliant, in my opinion. Not only do they do away with rain-out, they also make the CPAP air pleasurable to breathe. I use a humidifier and Pur-Sleep essences, so I breathe warm, moist, scented air all night long. If you gotta have OSA, this goes some way to compensating for it.

I agree it is almost as good as a "good person of the opposite sex"

                              Trying to be very p.c.

                                Hello,

Okay im going to order one of these hoses hopefully today, plenty of condensation again last and James cant supply at the moment. I assume the hoses are pretty generic and this one will fit on most machines, just worried as i dont wanna get it all the way here and it be the wrong fitting.

Can you feel much heat on the outside of it? Is it easy enough to clean out without damaging the hose?

                                Your replies are greatly appreciated.

                                Ben
