  • Heated hoses

After reading a reference in a novel to CPAP heated hoses, I had to go looking! All I can find is a Fisher and Paykel Thermosmart Heated Hose for 600 Series CPAPs, with a note that "this hose does not work with any other CPAP machine".

Does anyone know of a heated hose that works with a Remstar M Series APAP?

What with the nights drawing in, Xmas just round the corner and energy bills that make me think of returning to work, I'm starting to think seriously about rainout and its prevention and a heated hose sounds attractive.

Just a thought, but a very long one could be wrapped around my feet .......

I would also be very interested if you can find a generic heated hose that would work with my RESMED S8. I know I can get a combined heater and humidifier but I dont have a problem wwith humidity - just potential drowning from condensation

You are in luck, if you can get them shipped from Australia:

If you guys get them in and like them, let me know and maybe we can stock them here in the UK.

        Yet more feathers for James!

Well done, James!! Superb! They even come with an aubergine sleeve to match my bed linen!

Their's is not the cleaverest site on the web (selling two products using the same 'add to cart' button, so instead of paying 95 Euro (£75) you are charged for the other product at USD155 (£83), but hopefully an e-mail has sorted that) but who greatly cares - they are selling a very useful/sensible product.

And I've just proved that Poms whinge!

I notice that they have taken out a patent, so the Aussie tube is going to stay that way. Whatever, good on 'em!

I shall be able to give you feedback sooner rather than later if August continues to behave as if it is October!

Tell me, James, does OSA revert to being a medical condition after a while or does it remain a shortcut to bankruptcy?

          Hi James
I agree with Tigers Fan, a good product but a stupid site, I have also had a Pom whinge and asked them for a price in a single currency.

Tigers Fan - how about we get together on this, we should be able to get two tubes for one shipping charge if one of us does the ordering?

            You got it!

            Hi Les

You are a gentleman! I had the thought but got too impatient - mind, I was complicating it with a brother in Perth, WA - well, in the donga behind Perth.

Yes - let's ship together. As you are still in negotiation with them, will you handle it? My order number with them is - hm! I'll PM you.

"We ship together like ramma lamma lamma ka dinga da dinga dong"

When the NHS wins the lottery, it will revert back to being just a medical condition as oppose to a seemingly bottomless pit like an Edwardian conversion, a partner or kids

                  James?

Do we detect, James, that you spend your hard-earned on all three and perhaps several of the latter? and have OSA? and therefore used to be a very wealthy man? but now have a bent back?

How big an Edwardian conversion? where? that wealthy, eh?

                      A drongo wombat

If you are going to buy a heated hose from the Australian Sleepzone, I recommend caution.

For the UK, we need model SZ4. These are quoted at 139 USD for the US/Canada and at 95 Euros for the EU/UK - but ignore these figures. Click to buy one and you will be told they cost 155 dollars including 16 dollars Australian postage. This turns out to mean 155 AUD.

We are told that the hoses come complete "with A USA /Canada approved power adaptor is now supplied ... for UK/EU 220/240V an approved 240V is now supplied". This turns out to mean a 230 VAC/12 VAC step-down transformer/adaptor with the power socket pins an integral part of the body. Unfortunately, the power socket pins are suitable for use in Australia, New Zealand and Papua New Guinea. We are left to buy either a new transformer (£13 at Maplin) or a Oz to UK pin adaptor if you can find one.

So, what you would really need to do is negotiate a new price for the heated hose only - this way you pay air frieght postage only on a light weight hose and not on a heavy and useless transformer (in UK).

In fairness to Down Under Don, he immediately refunded me the cost of the repalcement transformer. So the hose cost AUD (155 - 27) = GBP 60.

The hose looks a bit homemade to me but well enough constructed to do the job, and time will tell how robust they turn out to be. The stench of the new hose is quickly lost by washing (I use warm water and Johnson's Baby Shampoo).

All set for the cold weather and we'll see if these hoses really do eliminate rainout!

OK Folks, Tigers Fan and I are now the proud owners of a bright purple heated hose each, courtesy of our Antipodean friends.
Tigers Fan is waiting for a cold night before he tries his bed warmer but I am using mine and am very pleased with it. It certainly seems to prevent condensation, but it also gives a nice warm breathe so it no longer gives me aching teeth from the cold air. This was due to the fact that I have sensitive teeth and am a mouth breather.
The import of these tubes was duty free using the category for medical equipment-personal use and the only down side was the fact that they came with Australian power connectors which don't fit UK sockets. However the transformer used for heating the tube is a seperate item and a suitable replacement was easily obtainable from Maplins. The Aussies did apologise and credited the cost of the Maplin transformers against the total cost.
The total cost of each unit with postage etc worked out at £75 and in my opinion worth the money. However I am sure that James should be able to import them and sell them cheaper than this now he knows they work OK.
Come on James how about it ??

Give it a few days and if your houses are still standing without fire-damage, we'll give the makers a bell

BTW, why would Ozzies need this anyway?!!!

Now one week in and still working 8 hours a day without obvious signs of damage or problems.
Believe me James, Southern Australia is cold in winter.
