Damn! The postman didnt knock, or didnt knock very loudly, and so my special delivery package didnt get through my door When I went to the dept they said he wouldnt be back until 1.30, and the place shut to customers at 12.30! Bum.

However I spoke to James at Intus and all is well, I can use the unit on Monday and Tuesday Its frustrating because I figured I would use it tonight and tomorrow and get it back on Monday and maybe even have the results by next Friday, and thanks to Royal Mail I dont have it, but hey ho. Two more nights of trying to suck my own teeth out isnt too bad I guess

Right, Ive got the unit, I've figured out how to put it on. I did a brief test run with it during the day (awake, obviously) and my blood oxygen was a healthy 95%. So looks like the machine works, and Im not on the verge of death when awake, so now to see what it picks up when I actually sleep!

Its quite a neat little unit actually and came in a nice little tupperware container. Luckily no-one seemed to have previously used it to store tuna sandwiches so that is good.

Question to James - is it best to switch off my mobile phone when I am using the unit?

OK first night done. I experienced a loy of insomnia, but managed to tack a few hours sleep in with the wakefulness. 3 times I was actually awoken by an apnea, with the unit having dropped from 96% to 86% blood oxygen (by the time I actually awoke to see it) and a big 'A', I presume for 'apnea', showing on the display.

At the time of waking I felt my usual sensations of dry mouth, panic, achey body and so on. I have no idea how many apneas I may have had that did not wake me, but there were three that did.

The insomnia was also due to anxiety about the test, with me worrying that because I couldnt get to sleep that it would ruin the data or something! Hopefully tnoght will be more plain sailing.

I feel quite encouraged that the unit was picking up apnoeas and showing a more than 10% drop in oxygen though.

              Just a thought?

Have you tried to get reffered to Edinburgh? As far as I am aware there is no waiting list here, I went from GP to test in weeks, I can go to the clinic when ever I need to and they are available on the phone 24/7 I know its a trek but a few hours drive is better than waiting for years on end. Why dont you pick up the phone and talk to them and see if they can help you and how to get refered, what do you have to lose apart from a 2 year wait?

Phone them, it could just make your day

PM me if you need the details
