  • No Cure in Sight

I find it so offensive that website are still advertising cures for sleep apnea, some sites are even asking for money for their so called miracle cure. "There is no cure" if there was then it would be splashed across most papers and us lucky ones who managed to get through the teething problems of cpap would have been informed by the clinics. This doesn't mean that we need to despair, I'm sure at some point a cure will be found in the future and not involving a surgeons knife. I still think more has to be done in educating people who have just started out on their treatment. I suppose my point is don't believe anything you read on the internet about so called cures, ALWAYS seek any medical advise through your clinics or doctors because if there is any developments in sleep apnea then its these people that will know and not some Dr Jekyll of the net. Happy papping

Hi Sparty....totally agree, however you have to allow for idiot journalism who think treatment and cure have similar meanings. Loved a headline recently that said this treatment gave a 30% less chance of dying !!! Either sloppy or immortality is round the corner.

      auto-stimulation

Best chance of a 'cure' seems to be the work being done on embedded/semi-embedded systems to detect an event and automatically stimulate the throat muscles to open the airway.

This is a 'cure' in the same way that a pacemaker is a 'cure'.

A friend sent me this link http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sciencete...eep-apnea.html

I can't see how it can keep your throat from closing though.
        Kind regards, Tricia

Tricia...I can't see how it works either, I bought a dental thing from Intus just to see if it would work (I'm terrified of snoring on a plane....don't want to scare the pilot) but all i got was a sore throat and a lot of drool in my beard . Can't see how this would work either.

I'm on meds for my heart...list of horrible side effects
          statins for blood pressure ditto
co codomal for nerve pain same again
zantac to relieve the effects of the other tablets ditto once more
My cute cuddly cpap machine which helps me breath and whistles gently in my ear to lull me to the land of nod...........side effects, occasional lil sore spot on the nose or the loss of an occasional nose hair with the pillow mask.

          Cpap Rules !!!!!

            Co-codamol is addictive.
            Zantac (Alprazomol) is addictive.
Statins can have side effects - muscle pain....
You don't say which heart medications you have...

I strongly suspect that you are long term dependent on a cocktail of medications. Your doctor is turning a blind eye to this...you need to confront him/her and ask how you are going to wean yourself off this....otherwise I think your health is severely compromised.

            I'm not a doctor...

Those medications aren't addictive. You can become dependent on them, and have to wean yourself off of them, with your GP's knowledge. Addictive and dependent are two different things.

But you have to weigh up the benefits they bring to relieving the symptoms, with the negatives they bring, which is why you should speak to your GP if you want to come off of any medication.

Oh, and statins are for high cholesterol, not high blood pressure!
              Kind regards, Tricia

                Lisinopril is the other one.
I do have ongoing discussions with my doc (and sometimes can even get an appointment within 48 hours......WOW) re medications and have reduced dosage on 2 of them.
A side effect of diabetes, {I forgot to mention the other tablet met(fart)in} is I improved my diet, took more exercise, lost some weight and still gasp for breath when asleep like a bellowing warthog, (every know and again I nap without Gail just to test myself)
All the probability curves for age health and medication seem to indicate that its better to continue than not but as with all probabilties sometimes they don't work out. As I refuse to gamble with money then Chance owes me a break (to any mathematicians out there I know that sentence is ridiculous).
But I still completely believe everything my shaman with the stethoscope tells me

Ps...Gail is my Cpap , for gale force wind...........before my wife reads this and wonders who I'm napping with.

We do have a habit of naming things, My car is Peggy, my netbook is the wee dote, and my tablet is the beast because I can't get it to work properly. Gail is my main Cpap and I have a travel one called Baby Gail (who is a bit peeved because she can blow just as hard as her big sister, so there) Not sure if I am trying to make scary technology more friendly or I feel better swearing at things by name.
