  • .....My body has amnesia

It seems that prelong abstanence is not a good thing for the mind and body when having OSA. Im having to start all over again after having about 3 months off my machine. I look at cpap like I did when I was a smoker, head in sand syndrome. I now feel quite ill due to tiredness and its quite a struggle humping a 4 ton machine around every night at work! (No Im not on the highway) It seems its going to take a few months to get back into wearing my mask again and I advise anyone not to have a break unless they dont mind starting again with gas and sore nose etc. Although I did enjoy being free when diving under the duvet....

Glad You Are Using the Machine Again

Hi Graham, Sounds like its going to be a little rough for awhile --but you will probably get used to it again a lot faster than you did the first time. The body remembers. Stick with it and you'll be feeling better pretty soon. You had me worried about you moving those big machines around all night while tired. So happy you are back working on the OSA. XOX Berneta

I have heard of hoseheads that have experienced a night off CPAP here and there for whatever reason, longer if they end up abroad on holiday/work and have not packed some vital component; but not someone that has stopped for three months then tried to restart.
        Hope you feel better soon!

          Nuts?

Yes Ive been on and off for about a year but its been months since I last used it. This time I'm being more persistent because I still believe that it doesnt work as even when used Im still bloody tired. think I trip back to the hospital is in order.....

Seven years into nightly use, and for the moment at least entirely at ease with and grateful for my set up, I don't actually understand in terms of few words why having got past those terrible early days anyone has the inclination yet alone determination to stop using CPAP. I am not saying this to be contrary, but because I think there is something fundamental and important in what this thread is scratching at the surface of.
Whilst grateful CPAP keeps us alive and reduces tiredness, in my experience there are many times and perhaps longer periods when I have not felt at all well. Whether this is connected with the equipment and set up, OSA, some other form of complex apnoea, blood sugar, thyroid, stress, depression; we each as individuals may not know and may be too tired or too ill informed or motivated to get the right sort of help.

Due to equipment failure i had to do 3 days without baby gail in foreign climes. Sleeping upright, nasal strips, caffienne tablets and wine got me through it and my snoring was less than pre gail days but i wouldn't fancy starting over ...... especially when it comes to finding a comfortable mask !!!

                  NO Machine?

Hi Martin--if I had to do without my machine for 3 days I would have been whining big time. You must be made of tough stuff. LOL. xx Berneta
