  • Ed Miliband has ENT Op done for sleep apnoea.

his tonsils, adenoids - the glands behind the nasal passages - and the flaps of soft skin a the back of the throat that contribute to sleep apnoea were cut away
In other words, give him a few months (or after Christmas) and he'll be back at square one probably. Painful, costly yet not very effective. Plenty of studies showing that outcome time and time again. Plenty of forum members here who can confirm this too.

With a deviated septum, you get sinus problems far more easily. The SinuPulse would have been my firth call. In case of Mild OSA, supported by a comfortable MAS. in case of moderate or worse OSA, a nice CPAP!

For me, surgery would always be the last option. If all else fails.

Note the comments on that article; "Is there an operation that can make him stop talking/be less irritating/stop asking dumb questions" etc.

I'll have you know James that I have had the same 'successful' operations on my deviated septum twice!

Wow, your breathing must be stellar then. Which Olympic sport will you be competing in again next year?

(Reuters) - Labor leader Ed Miliband has undergone a successful nose operation to treat sleep apnea, a condition that interrupts breathing during sleep, his office said on Wednesday.
It was carried out in central London on Wednesday to correct a deviated septum in a bid to alleviate the respiratory condition, which interrupts sleep because air is prevented from getting into the lungs.
Some newspapers have speculated that Miliband, 41, who is widely regarded to have failed to make a significant political impact since his election as leader last September, was having the operation to make his voice sound less nasal but Miliband has dismissed such claims.
He told BBC Radio 4 in May that he hoped the operation would not change the sound of his voice and added, "I'm having this done for medical reasons, because I suffer from sleep apnea."
A spokeswoman for Miliband said the operation had been successful and that Miliband is now resting before going on holiday with his family in a few days.

What a coincidence - both my 'successful' operations were carried out in central London too!

I still have a deviated septum and still have sleep apnea, but I do have an abiding memory of the gale like rush of air following the post op removal from your nose of what feels like a roll of carpet long enough to cover the M1 with all the traffic still attached.

              OP

My hubby had that operation years ago-- since the Dr told him he would sleep better after having it done. Now he is considering having it done again. I wonder why people are willing to go through all that pain and misery--when it obviously doesn't work the first time, if it needs to be re-done? Re-done--RE-done--RE-DONE. When does it work like its supposed to?

Well for me it's simply because i'd like to be able to breathe through my nose again, instead of my mouth. (plus the morphine was good! )
