  • Sleepiness and Stupidity...

So yesterday, I'm suffering for an aching left shoulder from lifting badly, so I lift something heave and hurt my right shoulder. Top it off I've got a huge and tender spot on the side of my nose.

Sod it. Painkillers (co-codamol + ibuprofen) and bed. Usual bedtime ritual (wash, teeth, mouthwash, shave, glass of iced water, fill humidifier, oximeter, adjust sleepweaver, close eyes).

30 mins later I'm asleep. 2 hrs later I'm awake, sticky eyes, mouth dry, throat sore, nose blocked. Great.

Sooo grab water, spill on chest, now awake. Drink rest of water, go downstairs, refill glass, go back to bed.

Hour later... [cut...paste] I'm awake, sticky eyes, mouth dry, throat sore, nose blocked. Great.

Sod it. Obviously can't breathe through nose. Turn on TV for dim light and not to wake mrs. Grab CPAP bag and forma. Forma in peices. Assemble forma in semi darkness , reset machine for a couple of notches higher on the min pressure and "full face" mode (not sure what it does but it's got that setting). Fidget in and out of sleep for four hours but at least I can breathe, even if the spot on my nose is really loving having the Forma pressed against it. Great.

6AM. Alarm. Have to pick up colleague and go to meeting 100 miles away, 20 mile drive opposite direction to get him. Get up, grab watch, phones, turn off oximeter, go to hit the off button on the humidifier... oh. wait. No wonder I had so much crap during the night - had forgotten to turn it on.

I'm going to make an actual, physical checklist.

I'd post the oximeter graphs but someone would probably call me an ambulance... or the coroner...

I think we can safely assume this wasn't a moment of your greatest brilliance...

      Stupidity

Are we having fun yet? Some nights its just that way! I had a regular fit one night--couldn't get anything to work at all. Then realized the CPAP had come unplugged. I blamed it on the cat. He hates the CPAP. x Berneta

All that effort, could have pressed one button. Sure that won't happen again.

Not to call this person stupid, but we had someone order a mask once and he rang a week later saying he felt this CPAP thing didn't work for him. Wasn't sleeping any better, not feeling rested much. After the usual mask-troubleshooting we learned the mask fitted really well actually. So we enquired about his machine. After some confusion, it emerged he didn't have a machine. He was just wearing the mask, he had read somewhere that people felt a lot better after wearing this mask so he went and bought one. When the penny dropped, he had a good laugh himself. Can't remember what happened in the end, might be on CPAP now after all.
