Having had a bad cold of late (Manflu) I didnt bother wearing my mask, havent worn it now for 3 days and I still feel good? On top of this I have now quit smoking and have been off them for 4 weeks, I class myself as a Non-smoker now. With all these issues coming into play at once is my body being conned into being well and is the OSA just been masked due to all the good things that my body is experiencing at the moment. Strange but I havent felt this good in years.

A lot of changes like that will confuse the various receptors in your cells that were relying on the smoking, CPAP etc. There may even be some placebo effect going on, who knows. How severe was the OSA pre-CPAP? If it was mild, perhaps you happen to be able to cope admirably for a number of days before it kicks in again.

Bad Cold
Hi Sparticus, You are probably still feeling the effects of less Carbon Dioxide in your system, and that is making you feel better. Eventually that good feeling will wear off, as you start building that again, due to the lack of using the CPAP which raises your oxygen levels. It will build up sooner or later, and you will start to feel tired again. To prevent that--start using your CPAP as soon as its comfortable again. Sorry you've been sick. I went through the same thing a couple weeks ago--and after a week of feeling pretty good, I am now glad to be using the CPAP again. Hope I didn't send you a cold thru PM--LOL. xxBerneta

Congrats on four smoke free weeks Sparticus. I think we all live in hope of not needing the CPAP but I know having fallen asleep without mine a couple of times that the snoring is back and the desats start again (as do the knees and elbows in the side...)
See how it goes - if you're getting by without it I'd get another study done just to make sure you're not doing any hidden harm.

A week?
Must be comming up to a week now since I worn my mask, still got a spark in the day not nodding off, its strange to say the least. I still think its a con! I know at some point my body will crash and I will return to normal, would love to see what my sp02 sats are, have they come up to a point where I can funtion normally, well I have my annual review in April so hopefully by then I will have been of the fags for some months so I will ask for a copy of the data just to see if quitting smoking is that much of a benefit that it can cure you, we will see?
