  • 3 weeks in and CPAP pillow (half the price from USA)

After 18 nights of struggle with the mask - max. time on 5 hours, average c 3 - I got a CPAP pillow* and immediately was able to keep the mask on all night. Three nights in a row, mask been on 11 or more hours.

I am still only booking afternoon work and yesterday only worked 2 hours, 12- 2; later work was cancelled so I went home ….and I was asleep again 16:30-17:30….so it isn't making any difference yet. I am back to where I was a month ago – 12 hours in bed, mostly asleep, often waking up but going straight back to sleep (or to the loo and then straight back to sleep). Only difference is that I now wear a mask.

Hopefully wearing it will bring a change in time

    * NB. It would have cost me 78GBP+postage from London but cost 42GBP inc. postage from Amazon.com. Ridiculous but true.

Why buy one at all? It seems that someone picks an illness and starts making things that arnt really needed, whats wrong with a normal pillow?

I think the point of cpap pillows is to allow you to sleep on your side with a mask on easier, they have cutouts. I just move the pillow so I'm nearer the edge.

Funnily enough ... I find sleeping at the end of the pillow works for me too .. I use a Quattro full face some nights and a Liberty Fx others ... the comfort at the edge of the pillow is the same ... but thats just me

It makes a big difference to me because - although I can start of at the edge od a pillow - my head moves a lot in the night and I was continually knocking the mask and getting leaks. the pillow has stopped that for me. I realize we are all different but in 18 nights before it arrived, I never had the mask on all night; since I got it I've never had a night when it has not been on all night so it is a purchase I am very happy with Mr CynicalSparticus ;-)

Cynical, me? Im from the school of, if it works, go for it. Something really strange happened in bed today, I woke up to find my mask intacted as usual but somehow I had ripped my hose off, strange or what, then again my dreams have been strange of late, will have to stop watching horror films

Yeah - the dreaming is taking a bit of getting used to - I'm told dreaming is what normal people do so here's to normality!. I've been woken to the sound of my machine blowing air across the bed a couple of times now - having rolled over and pulled the hose from the machine!

Thankfully the machine has rubber feet, as my cabinet is higher than the bed and I wouldn't want to drag it onto me at night... ouch...

Three weeks for me too last night!

Fell asleep last night without the cpap for an hour - was watching TV in bed and next thing I know I'm wondering why the film has changed... I've been using an oximiter nightly for the last couple of weeks- if anyone's interested I'll stick a "cpap / nocpap" graph up - anyone who's not convinced can see for themselves, if you've got OSA and CPAP makes you well then non-compliance is not a good thing.

Anyway - three weeks in, my blood pressure is normal in a morning, I don't wake more than once during the night (or at all last night after putting on the CPAP) and I'm losing weight, able to get through the day, not tired in an afternoon and have a slightly sore nose some mornings. I'm dreaming some nights, haven't had a bad night for a week and can finally put the mask on without staring at it for ten minutes thinking "do I have to?".

Another week like this week and I'll be posting in the "success" stories thread I think. 7hr 17m on cpap last night - longest non-stop so far!

Good for you symmit. I had the mask on for about 10 hours last night but with a few trips to the loo and various adjustments at other times for air blowing out the mask it was far from continuous. I'm still "sleeping" round the clock and only out of bed ten hours a day...and so much needs to be done. Anyway dreams, yes I seem to have hundreds a night - that was true pre-mask too though

To many people these Pillows make all the difference.

Could have had it from Surrey from about £43

£78 seems a bit much indeed, unless that includes extra cases and the top of the range models with hi-tech foam.
