Bedtime rituals, how do you do yours? Do you put your mask on before you get into your bed or do you risk it and get into bed first. The latter is my way to go but danger signs are usually ignored. I know I should do this outside the bed because sometimes, if I get in bed first I can zzzzzzzzzzzzzz

The problem with the proper way is it can be very cold as the window is open and the fan is on and its -12 outside and (Polite Cough) Im wearing my skin! So, how do you go about it. "In or Out" thats the question

    Bedtime Routine

I have over the last 6 months come up with a routine that suits me. I go into my bedroom and turn on the light about 7 PM--open the window a crack (even if its snowing) and turn on the fan. I pull back the blankets and quilts and choose which pillows I want to sleep on--usually feather. Then I put the cats out of the bedroom and shut the door to keep them out. They keep me awake if I let them sleep with me. At 10 PM -- I get ready for bed--wash and rinse the humidifier, hoses, and mask. Dry it all with a paper towel. Then I sit on the side of the bed and unwrap my CPAP-- which I keep wrapped in Chiffon to keep dust off it. I hook everything up and fill the humidifier with distilled water. I put some fragrance on a cotton pad near the air intake, (I like vanilla) and turn the machine on. I check my blood sugar and if its ok, I am ready for bed. I set the humidifier heat at 3--which works for me, and I don't bother with using the ramp button. I put on the mask and turn on a flashlight, and then turn off the bedside light. Then I lay down and adjust my headgear carefully. Do some back and leg exercises for 10 minutes --then turn this way and that to make sure there are no mask leaks. THEN I turn off the flashlight, and am asleep in 5 minutes. I keep a bottle of water and a snack beside the bed in case I wake up with low blood sugar. I usually wake at 5 AM and check my blood sugar, and have no trouble going back to sleep till 9 AM. Of course--all routines can be changed for special occassions. x Berneta

Ensure I have to hand freshly washed mask, humidifier (freshly filled, no re-use here), pint of water with lots of ice to keep it cool through the night (I often wake up with a dry mouth), oximiter (still in a "Data Hungry" mode), TV remote.

Look for cats. Ensure cats are not in bedroom. Look for dog, ensure dog is in bedroom. Open window slightly, turn PC off.

TV on, light off, in bed, watch TV for half an hour to relax (still find putting mask on mentally offputting). Put on mask, breathe in to activate, fidget for 5 mins making sure it's not too tight or too loose or rubbing or pinching or farting or leaking or anything - ramp now set at 5 mins so by now at normal pressure.

Stick oximiter on wrist, hit pillow. Breathe deliberately and regularly until asleep.

I close the window in late afternoon. The heating/cooling goes on not much later. By bedtime the bedroom has achieved a pleasant, perfect-for-me temperature. I undress and scratch what of the newly freed needs scratching. I choose music for the pre-sleep - thanks Lorraine - don mask, hit the ramp button, switch on the heated hose in the winter, swing my legs into bed, lights out, snuggle and sleep.

Or, before donning mask, I might watch TV, read, snuggle and talk, have sex, sometimes by myself and sometimes with a friend, occassionally wth two. Any of these activities means I sometimes have to get out of bed and re-visit the bathroom and for this reason the air con is programmed to stay on until I expect to be tucked up snuggly.

My kitten has been really concerned since I started using the CPAP machine - won't leave my side while I am sleeping.
