  • Two Weeks

(no, that's not how long I'm staying on mars)

Two weeks in to my CPAP phase of life and the bad days are already better than the good days were before it.

Pressure is now set at minimum 8, going to talk about dropping that a bit as I'm feeling a bit light headed and have a bit of a headache in the morning, was fine at 7. AHI is under 1 on nights where I keep the mask on all night. Oximetry is looking very good, and I'm sleeping 6 hrs or more at a time.

If a night is disturbed I begin to feel tired about 6pm, but now most days I'm getting through them with more life and energy than I can ever remember.

Two and a half weeks into mine now, not quite as good you, alas, but it has been that way since the start; you took to it faster and better.

My first week was much worse than I had been before trying mask and now I am up to about the same as I was before though on one particular day I felt better than I have for a year or more. That was the night I managed the longest continuous use of mask so gives me huge encouragement even though it was nearly a week ago and has not yet been replicated.

I am still spending about 12 hours in bed, 4 awake, 4 asleep with mask on (waking up every half hour or so, briefly, adjusting mask or drinking to cure "dry mouth") until the mask gets knocked too much out of snug fitting position and I am too knackered to fix it and just sleep without it. I always make a point of putting it back on whenever I wake up again though.

My CPAP pillow just arrived. I know some people think they are just a rip off while others swear by them (rather than at them ) but I think everything is worth a try to get me going.

My setting is 9, ramp was at 4 but I changed that to 6.

      And on the 19th night….

      And on the 19th night….

I slept all night with the mask on for the first time. In the morning my CPAP pillow had arrived and although it comes with warnings that it takes a few days to get used to it, it seemed to have had an immediate effect. Certainly stops the mask being knocked out of position so easily, apart from any other benefits it might have.

      Mask on + sleep:

Went to bed 9:30. Slept 10:30-1:30. (then awake an hour) Slept 2:30-8:30. These weren’t continuous sleeps and I did wake up but not so often and not early so often to adjust mask.

Which is all very promising, although…….

I took the mask off at 8:30 and was about to get up…..when suddenly it was 9:30, I’d fallen asleep immediately, with mask off which means I obviously still wasn’t rested properly (wouldn’t it be funny if the diagnosis was wrong and I don’t sleep any better with the mask…..)

So 8 with mask and 1 without – best since I left the hospital by a long distance. Will be interesting to see when I start feeling exhausted today. Maybe I won’t??? Ha, dream on…..

I just wrote a load of stuff and it all disappeared

Can't be bothered to do it again so will just say that no matter whether I use cpap or not, or what pressure I use it at I have still not had a full nights sleep since starting cpap a year ago

I am going to a 'proper' sleep clinic tomorrow for a consultation so have my fingers crossed that they can help.

Good luck with that, Lorraine. I was awake a couple of dozen times last night, btw, once for an hour so I haven't either but it was a big step forward for me. Hopefully anyway
