I'm big, 19 1/2 stone, but have been as much as 23 1/2 before diagnosis. I reckon I used to eat lots of crappy sugary food as a quick energy boost as I was shattered all the time.
Still trying to lose weight and have almost dropped under 19 at one point
but a packet of crisps and a chocolate bar appear to add about 8lbs on! Need more willpower but I'm heading in the right direction.

I'm busy with trying to control my blood sugar levels - several years after I should have taken it seriously, but better late than never.
How to give up chocolate and mince pies and oh! ... the list is endless? I started out with will power and got the usual hit and miss result from that tactic. So I decided to treat it as an addiction - very near the truth, I suspect! A list of the pros of eating was soon hugely outweighed by the list of cons - headed with blindness, not being able to experince touch and touching, amputated toes, fingers, limbs de dah.
It took a lot of reciting the list to begin with but it soon came down to making a choice. I choose not to buy, eat chocolate and the rest because I choose to keep my sight, sensation, limbs. etc.
Also, unlike an addiction, I find I can eat a little of what I fancy - but not chocolate - on infrequent occassions - so it's not as if I can never eat a mince pie again (yes, they've been in the supermarkets for a few weeks already!) but I choose to eat only one very occassionally.
Blood sugar levels below 7 at my daily test before supper have become another reason not to eat sugary things - don't want to get a kink in my graph.
