      proper test for cpap

If you have a partner i suspect the way to find out is dont use it, snore loudly, count the bruises. If no bruises then at least the snoring is fixed, i aint trying it, my wife has sharp nails.

I've lost the mask knack at the min, keeps sliding off and blowing wind in my eyes.......sigh.....and we were getting on so well together.

On a lighter note i was describing the darth vader aspect of hoseheadedness and a friend assumed that i wore the complete costume! I need new friends.

In fact my hearing is so sensitive that I run a fan summer and winter to drown out the sounds of owls and howling coyotes. I find the sound of the CPAP soothing. I wonder if they make masks with speakers? Sounds a little spooky to me--but to each his (or her) own. It would be a dull world if we were all alike! Berneta
Thats strange, I do the same with the fan, I thought that was just me lol The frequency of noise from the fan seems to dround out background noise but going on to pillows with speakers, I again do the same but I wear ear plugs to listen to music, were not all that different lol

I used to use ear plugs but over time I got sore ears if I laid on my side or one would come out if I turned over, so found the best result with the speakers.

              I have a complaint!!

Never one to turn away from a good idea, I bought a pair of stereo pillow speakers (the pillow remains washable this way).

They arrived yesterday. An afternoon trial run nearly lasted longer than planned so I was all set for a bedtime story last evening.

I was busy thinking this isn't such a good idea because I was staying awake by having to concentrate to understand the words without my hearing aid - cloth ears plus a pillow was too much for some words ..... when BAM!! I startled awake. My iPod had timed out and the soothing, muffled words had stopped! Oh! zzzzzzzzzzzz

I finished working out what had happened this morning.

Maybe Deva Premal tonight and for long enough to get into REM sleep.

Why is everything one learns about from this CPAP site so complicated???

That's why I listen to the radio, it just goes on all night. No sudden silences.
The problem I have is on LBC (97.3) they have a quiz at about 10.30 and the answers follow about 10 mins later. I listen to the questions but almost never get to hear the answers

                Happy days and happier nights.

                  Glad to hear....

Its nice to know that the music worked and the quiz, its seems that when your concentrating on something else other than sleep like music or a quiz or even a story that the brain lets go and off you drift. I swear by it and the only annoying thing about it is forgetting to charge my Ipod

Sounds vaguely familiar! I fall asleep part way through one film and wake during another - so confusing!

                      Question for the women

I have noticed that after not using my Cpap since the 11th Dec I have been having hot flushes during the night, whereas I never had them before. I have been waking up a lot feeling dreadfully hot even with no heating and the windows wide open. However, last night I used my machine again and no hot flushes. Is this just coincidence or has anyone else noticed a difference?

Hmmm - have you got an oximiter to hand??? Would be useful to see what's happening without the CPAP. I know that if I forget to put my mask on now it's followed after an hour or less by a dig in the ribs to shut up the snoring

Night sweats perhaps don't trouble everyone but are a common symptom of OSA aren't they? My CPAP effectiveness can be measured by not only how tired/refreshed I feel but how little/much I have sweated, at least that was the case till I started using a memory foam topper which helps with some aches and pains but is a heat pump for sweating.

I haven't read all the posts yet, why did you stop CPAP Lorraine?

I stopped using the cpap because I wasn't sure if I still needed it, I was waking so often no matter what pressure I used. It just didn't seem to make any difference either way. Except of course for the nighttime overheating which I have only just discovered MAY have some connection with the aponea.
I have turned the pressure way to to 10 as advised by my new doctor so it will be interesting to see if I have the same results tonight.

                              Hi Symmit,
I don't have one but am going for a sleep test on the 3rd March which the doctor has asked me to do without using the cpap. I presume that is to check whether I do actually need it or not any more.

                              Thanks for the input

                                Boy I'm Hot

Hi Lorraine, I wake up at least once a night burning up, and have to throw the covers off to cool down. Have't got a reason for it. I sleep in a cold room and use an electric blanket when I go to bed--but by morning I have turned it off and the room is just as cold. I am way past menopause-- and as this happens summer and winter --I am assuming it has something to do with using oxygen and Sleep Apnea. It happens whether I am using the CPAP or not. Other than that---the only thing I can think it might be is a dream that makes me too warm. It happened during my sleep study and the CRT told me that I was thrashing about some during REM while I was dreaming and my temp went up. OH happy days---A HOT dream that I can't remember. I wonder, Tom Cruise---Mel Gibson---Sean Connery---some friend I know? DRAT. LOL x Berneta
