Overnight Flights

OK - I can understand the frustration - but surely one night without your CPAP is not going to have any serious effects. You had many such nights before you were diagnosed. I travel to the Far East on overnight flights at least once a year and just get on with it. You sound as if you like making a fuss.

I agree with the last post. Just take time to think and whether it really is worth making so much bother about for one night.

I guess it depends on whether or not you are willing to keep everyone awake with loud snoring? My mother told me once that "ladies" don't hit, yell, snort,growl, nag, fart, or snore. Boy was she wrong. LOL. Berneta

well having just returned from malaysia
I flew out with KLM
who were very good about my cpap and with a weeks notice instatlled a 12v supply for me to use
the purser or burser what ever he is called was fully aware of cpap usage and was waiting for me to arrive on the plane so he could plug in my power lead before taking my seat.

the return journey on the other hand was totally different
it was with air malaysia
the allow you to use a cpap but you must have it running from your own lithium polymer battery they allow you to use them but will not install a 12v supply for you.

I travelled with my wife and daughter
my snoring is horrendous i dont belive any cpap user is making a fuss to consider those around them
I would take it your one of the lucky ones who does not snore
or if you do then you must be one of those inconsiderate types who does not give two hoots to those around him/her

Travelling with machinery

I have travelled extensively carrying my CPAP equipment in my hand luggage and have been through airline security checks at Heathrow, Leeds Bradford, Doncaster, Belfast International, Belfast City, Suvarnabhumi Bangkok, Phuket. Kho Samui, Don Muang Bangkok, Surat Thani, Jakarta, Kuala Lumpur, Hong Kong, Bali, Yogyakarta, Larnaca, Amman, Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City, Phnomh Penh, Sydney, Cairns, Brisbane and have NEVER been stopped or questioned when I simply put the bag through the Xray machine...

ahh so you are one of them that does not give a hoot

using cpap is not only for your well being
it is also for the comfort of those around you

I have used cpap/apap for the last 10 years and a night without one is rough
I have become so attuned to using it

no it wont kill me to miss a night but I will roar like a bull elephant once I nod off

should those around me have to put up with it and not make a fuss
if the person on the plane next to you had an ipad turned up loud enough for you and those 5 rows back and 5 rows forward could not sleep but he could plug headphones in
would you deem it fussy to request he did it

no of course not
so why should anyone not make a fuss
If i new that I was potentially going to disturb at least 100 people around me snoring like a jack hammer

I can be like you and say...so what it wont kill you people live with it

or I could request some power for my machine giving comfort for myself and importantly those 100 people around me

is that being fussy

I think you know the answer to that but your just being fussy

Im thinking of doing long distance for the first time this/next year, sis in india, broth in law in oz and looking at the batt assist for the flight. Heck i know how loud my snoring is (see previous posts or imagine a rhino crossed with a small jet engine) . I prefer not trusting airlines so will prob look at the battery charger things.............or possibly tell them to visit me, tho they have nicer weather but bitier bugs !!

The airlines can get sniffy about using rechargeable batteries to power the CPAP too - I have the Super CPAP Battery Pack which has a bigger capacity than some airlines like to allow in carry on baggage. It is worth asking them if you want to use it.
