  • Top Cleaning Tips!

    Hi

To add to the debate / tips I have the following on mask cleaning with the double seals as used on the Resmed products (Quattro / Liberty etc)

    1. As a cleaning solution use a small amount of mouth wash in warm water. Safe to use as it goes in your mouth and after swishing around you breath some of the residual left as a taste in your mouth - works for me

    2. I get some scale build up between the two rubber seals and in the lower part of the mask - using the above mix I found that an electric toothbrush works very well in getting the scale off (very hard water area). I used the type that vibrates only not the rotating type - that may damage the seals

Hope this may be of assistance - what else have you found that works?

If you have a novel solution post it up so we can all experiment!

    Cheers to you all

Aside from the ready made Citrus II cleaning products, we've used ultra-sonic cleaners too. For 20-50 pounds you can get one of those handy things which cleans everything that fits in there. It's a real industrial process and lifts off any particles it can get to. Jewelry, cuttlery, glasses, tools, coins, keys you name it, it takes it all. CPAP mask parts work great too. A drop of mild detergent, like Ecover, or a squirt of Citrus II spray can add another cleaning dimension to it.

Plenty of good deals on eBay for ultra-sonic cleaners.

These tend to be investments the other half don't mind too much either!

I have been using the spray citrus mask cleaner from James and found it works really well for me, just spray the mask, it sort of foams a little, rinse with water, air dry and it's done- leaves a nice smell as well. I hadn't thought about scale, I live in a hard water area so the toothbrush tip might help me out when the dreaded scale arrives.
      Regards,
      Tony.

I'm using alcohol free baby wipes on all parts of my mask. Also using them as a pull through for my hose assy. removes the moisture and gives it an antiseptic wipe at the same time. Just use a small weight on the end of a piece of fishing line. drop it through, wrap the wipe around and pull.
job done. These cost me $1.00 Aussie for a pack of 80 at the local discount shop.

I'm swishing my mask in a mild solution of baby shampoo every day. Then rinsing with cold water and air drying.

I was told to wash my nasal mask every week when I was in the hospital. Now I have a full face ( Mirage Quattro) it came in a little carrying case with guidance on how to put it on and a manual on how to take care of it. So now I know I should be cleaning my mask every day!

I'm sorry if I'm banging on about the nurse who set me up with my kit, but it just shows that you can get bad advice in the hospital. Apart from the washing instructions I got the wrong size nasal mask, wasn't told how to properly put on the full-face I tried, so I had a panic attack, then when the other lady asked if we could try both we were told we could only have one mask. The doctor I saw last week, on the other hand, was lovely and I now have a full-face and a nasal to fall back on if I need to and all I have to do is ring up if I want a different size and they'll put it in the post.

I buy antiseptic wipes that have a soft side on one side and a rough(ish) side on the other i got from my chemist. The rough side cleans my mask very well but its not rough enough to scratch the mask, then i wipe over with the soft side to Finnish the clean. I did try and wash it before in soapy water, but the drying part and trying to clean off all the deposits in the mask was a bit of a fuss for me. So these wipes are fab to use. cleans my mask and also kills germs wile i do it, also smells nice too after.
