  • Sore nostril

I've been using the FP nasal pillow mask since beginning of January.
It's a bit like wearing a hat with the hard plastic and metal "skull cap" but it allows me to sleep on my back or either side. This is particularly good as I can vary my sleeping position through the night without waking up with stiff muscles.
The nasal pillows fit well and I am getting a weekly leak rate of 0. My only problem is my left nostril has a rather tender patch where the skin is broken and doesn't get a chance to heal through the day. It is quite sore when the nasal pillow is in position but I have managed to persevere and still get a good night sleep. The sore has got a little bigger so tonight and over the weekend I am going to use my spare Resmed Ultra mirage 2 mask. I'm not too happy with this mask as it does leak alot more than the FP. This, I hope, will let my nose heal. If not, can anyone recommend anything to put on my nose to reduce the discomfort?

    Thanks in advance

Thanks Nuneatonman. I will get some tomorrow and give it a try. I did buy some vaseline but had the same worries as you about it's effect on the nasal pillow.

    Best regards

      Just an update.
Thanks Nuneatonman37 the Bepanthen did the trick and very quickly as well. I made a slight adjustment to my mask as well and now I have no discomfort. Thanks again for the advice.

      Best regards

Just noticed that on the Bepanthen website - you can get a free sample - if you complete a survey tell them what us eh-hem mothers think.

          sore nostrils

I've just been diagnosed and the first night my nasal pillow gave me such a sore nose that I got up at 2.30 am and smeared vaseline on my nostrils. Worked fine. I asked in the chemist did they have any nasal gels etc. and the pharmacist said vaseline is best as it is sterile, has no water, will not sink in or rub off, in fact he said you can eat it as it won't do any harm. I hope it will not damage the latex but I could not stand the pain and soreness. I think the vaseline also helps the nasal pillow stay in place as I have been able to sleep on my side as well.
