Dear shatteredwife
Sadly you are a clear reflection of the difficulties experienced by partners of individuals who refuse toaccept / believe the diagnosis they have been given. Having said that, it also sounds like he has been given far too little information, therefore it is difficult for your husband to make informed choices.
It is only by your dogged determination to research the subject and through persistence with the equipment that he finally seems to be coming to the realisation about his condition. Well done!!!!
Some useful tips / points to remember:
-Ask him what were the specific difficulties that prevented him from getting more than a couple of hrs on CPAP? Most often is is issues about the mask such as discomfort or leakage that will deter individuals. Good mask fit (with little or no leak) is crucial for the whole thing to work best.
-sometimes the starting pressure of the machine is too low shas ramped up the person can struggle initially until the CPAP machine has ramped up its pressure.
- Liaise with his sleep service - they need to be aware of how he has been (or not) getting on with it. THey may be able to assist with further mask choices etc
- Have a look at information from the Sleep Apnoea Trust - they are a charitable organisation set up by CPAP users, and they provide clear but easy to understand info on different aspects of OSA.
- If he is overweight, it is possible that with significant weight loss his condition will improve.
- AS far as DVLA and insurance is concerned - it is good that he has finally informed them - however - if he is in an accident, they may ask to check his usage of CPAP - if there has been little / no recent usage, he may be in some serious bother and risks losing licence and insurance baing invalid.
Where is he being seen by the way?
Good luck with it all

The DVLA will have wrote to his consultant who would have informed them that he uses CPAP. If he is not using it the sleep clinic will be able to find out by downloading the data stored on the CPAP machine when he goes for his follow up appointment. Then the DVLA will get to find out and his licence will be revoked.
We all have problems adjusting to life with CPAP but if he sticks with it, he'll get there and his life (and yours) can only change for the better! It's trial and error with the masks though. I hated mine when I first started CPAPing but now I cant sleep without it

I was the same the first year.I to hardly use my machine and i did get into BIG trouble for not doing so at the hospital. At first i was embarrassed to wear it in the same room with my partner, maybe your partner feels the same and TBH i think my partner also cotton on over time he made me feel more confident and i used my machine ever since. Also it got to the stage of my mask has i felt claustrophobic with a full face one, i was given the same mask your husband has that you described and since then i have used it all of the time.
I know via seeing my partner been tired at the start of my treatment has well has me been tired it was not fair,we to did not go out has we was both tired, also him telling me he loves me and my machine wont make me lose him boost my confidence has i did feel very less sexy in my mask at night, and has well has him saying we will both get more sleep really help me to use it every night and now we have a social life.I don't know your husband at all,but your first post i could see both him and me,and you and my partner it was very alike us. But it great news he started to use it a bit, again i was the same i use it for 2 nights then 3 nights till i got to a full week i was fine after i kept using it over and over.Just keep reassuring him and telling him how much it will give back his life,it worked for me.
