Can't help you with the machine settings but if you have the option to set EPR you may want to set it, start at its lowest setting and see if it improves things.

I don't use it on mine when I'm using the sleepweaver because it moves around too much with the pressure changes.

Tried this last night, woke up with mask off and machine turned off. I have no awareness of doing so.

I followed advice on here about cleaning (not that I don't anyway) mask had a good seating, no leaks etc, fell asleep within minutes all cosy, woke up couple of hours later and there it was at the side of the bed, and machine turned off. Seems I'm back to square one

Hmmm - machine off - does it auto-off (mine does) if you don't replace the mask on your face after a while?

Again - if there is a mask alarm you may want to try that, at least it will wake you and get it back on, and try turning up the humidifier.

No auto off or alarm feature I'm using a Resmed S8 Escape II which I think is an entry level machine, so no whistles and bells sadly.

Its strange because I thought I had got over this problem sometime ago. The mask is a snug fit and I'm used to background hum of the machine and I'm not having a problem going asleep.

It's a worry that I don't know when I'm removing the mask. It could be 10 mins in to sleep or several hours. For instance I checked the"hours used" after last night and it was up six. But if I've taken the mask off and the machine has been running until at some point I've switched it off, I don't really know if I've actually had any therapy.
I suppose the clinic will be able to tell from the data card.

Hi again Sleepy Pete!

Not only was I told that the Resmed S8 Escape II doesn't have an alarm function, but I was also told that only basic information (such as total number of motor hours) is recorded. That said the unit does appear to switch itself off automatically a while after the mask is removed.

I checked the memory card slot of my machine and there isn't a card in there. I can therefore only assume that there's an internal, battery-backed memory as the "number of hours" and other data is recorded and accesssible via the clinical menu (which officially no-one apart from a sleep technician should be accessing).

The only way I've been able to guesstimate how long I was asleep before taking the mask off is by looking at how much water was left in the humidifier. If hardly any water had evaporated I knew the mask had come off fairly early in the night. That plus the fact that I felt very tired were both big giveaways...

When I borrowed a ResMed AutoSet S9 recently I found it's "last night" data on the patient menu to be a much easier way of determining how long I had worn the mask. I had removed the mask on two of the nights, and one of them gave a reading of 3.6 hours usage when I checked the following morning. Again I was quite tired but at least I knew how long I'd been asleep before removing the mask!

I agree that you need to go back to the clinic as they should be able to determine why this is happening. If your pressure needs to be adjusted it can be done either in the clinic or by sending a memory card through the post. When you insert the memory card into the machine it will update the settings automatically without you having to be naughty by changing them yourself.

If we have the same setup it must be auto switching off then. Which makes me believe that I am getting some therapy.
I'll ring the clinic on Monday as my next current visit isn't for another 6 months & I cant wait that long.
Once again thanks to all who have offered advice.

i use same machine as you sleepypete. i take mine off occasionally through the night, but was told my machine has got auto-off

Can you not search on-line and find the spec of your machine - you'll know for sure then what it does and does not.

ive got all booklets and also got the rescan data card with mine, although its still in the bag lol, as i wouldnt know what to do ith it

It doesn't specify if it auto shuts down or not, and in my experience if a manual doesn't mention a feature, then it probably doesn't have it.
