    Sounds like .....

    Hi Jan

Sounds like leakage at the seal. Usual cure is either to wriggle your face inside the mask or to jigggle the mask on your face. If they don't work, lift the mask from your face and re-seat it. In all this, we're talking minute amounts. If it is still leaking, tighten a pair of straps by 2mm max each.

I'm not aware that we know what your rig is. Essentially are you using full face or nasal mask (mouth covered or not) and APAP or CPAP (look at the label on the machine/ ask your clinic)? After that, be good to know your pressure(s) and model of mask and machine.

For perspective, you are experiencing standard newbie problems, "is all". Think of your nervousness and the difficulties of learning to drive compared to your ease when driving now. PAPing is like that.

Well put TF, you do have a way with words. I know all these things can be scary to newbies just like us when we first started out but we all have to start somewhere and it usually starts with leaks or a sore nose.

It's just the air leaking through the seals. You can get some really great noises if you play about!

As well as trying tightening the straps, sometimes the straps can be too tight so you need to experiment to get it right.

Try moving the mask - up, down, sideways, and try turning it too... while the masks are perfectly symmetrical, many faces aren't!

Also, try adjusting where the straps fit round the back of your head... I finally got a good fit when my wife pulled the straps a lot lower than I normally wear them.

Failing all that, why not get a dog. The mask won't fit any better, but you have something to blame the farting on!

i had a whistling sound from my mask and after numerous checks it was on of the clips were not on right... check your clips even if its new and you havent taken any off, mine was new.
