  • ResMed Quattro FX

I'm currently testing a Quattro FX. Its ok but after 3 nights usage my face is really red in the morning. As anyone else experienced this? could it be an allergic reaction to the seal?

    Red face in the morning.

Quite normal I'd say as you do have to have the mask clamped on well. Me, I've got a what you can only describe as a "monkey" ring and an imprint on my forehead. I'd be surprised if there was an allergy, the stuff is pretty inert.

      Like OldCrow says ...

Its all part of the deal ... I have them too .. but am now trying the Liberty mask ... different rings .. different teething problems ... hang on there and all will be well .... or so others tell me

Red rings, faces and sore spots are most commonly due to over-tightened headgear.

What is the most common mistake with CPAP?

        Over-tightening the headgear.

Hang loose, brothers and sisters - you want it j u s t tight enough, is all.

I got a new problem last night. I was woken by what I can only describe as my mask spitting at me!
Does anyone have similar problems? and what is the way to solve it?

Rainout i would expect..... basicly.. i assume your using a humidifier?
So the moist air travels from your machine along a pipe thats colder than the air traveling along it so it condenses and leaves water inside the pipe...
Depending how you have your machine and pipe setup.. this can allow the water to travel slow the pipe and eventualy be blown out into your mask,,, hence the spitting,,

Solutions... i suppose the best is a heated hose.... failing that.. get a hose huggie.... is like a fleece liner that covers the length of the hose holding the heat in more..
lastly.. try placing the machine lower than where you sleep with the hose running `uphill` .. which should allow the majority of the water to run back downhill into the humidifier

im fairly new to all this myself.. so feel free to add or correct me anyone

Sounds like rainout to me - Hose huggie fixed it for me, other solutions include turning down the humidifier, or turning up the room temperature, or running the hose under your quilt.

Chivalry & symmit, thanks for the advice. Where would I get a hose cover from?

They do. I have an Intus one. I also have one from Hope. Sorry Intus, but the Hope one is nicer.

What machine have you got? if its the Resmed S9 it has its own dedicated heated hose with extra sensors to monitor the humidity entering the mask,,, and its quite cheap for what it offers,, around 25 quid i think...
