  • Mask Experiences?

    Hi All,

I have been on CPAP for 2 1/2 weeks now but am having no end of trouble with my mask, therefore I'm thinking of buying another but was wondering people's opinions on which is the best, by best I guess it's on the following factors:

    Comfort
    Amount of leakage
    Ease of movement during night
    Noise

People's experiences would be much appeciated so I can try and make an informed choice.

    Thanks in advance

I was thinking about the Mirage Quattro Full Face Mask - http://www.eu-pap.co.uk/mirage-quatt...face-mask.html

Anyone have experience of this mask?

I have 4 masks and the Mirage Quattro is one of the best in all factors.
The SleapWeaver is also very good as it is light and has a flexability that no other mask has.
The other 2 masks I have are not particularly brilliant and not really worthy of a mention.

        Hi,

Masks comfort is very subjective and what one person finds comfortable may be hell for another.

For what it's worth I've had my Mrage Quattro Full Face mask for over two and a half years and apart from putting a bit of plumbers PTFE round the connector on the elbow joint to stop an annoying leak then I've had no issues.

Thanks for your replies ElleCee and gvader, you both seem to have had a good experience with the Mirage Quattro I also found these two:

Ultra Mirage Full Face - Not sure the difference
Respironics ComfortGel Full - Seeing as my exisiting mask is a gel one (Mojo)

I'm beginning to see picking the right mask is extremly difficult!

            Fittinbg session

            Hi Aracas

If you can make a choice between Resmed and Respironics, you can then but a mask fitting session for £25. During the session, you can try all their various masks.

I have the nasal versions of both these masks, can't get on with the respironics one, it starts well but as soon as you move your head the air starts escaping and whistling noises wake me up!

I regularly use the Ultra Mirage, and generally get on ok with it(the quattro is a newer model) it is easy to adjust and teardown and reassambly for cleaning is pretty simple too....

Thanks for everyones replies, it's interesting to see that most of you trust the Mirage brand and use them regually.

I assumed the Ultra was the one up from the Quattro, it's good to know that it's in fact the other way round so thanks acebass.

I guess it is going to be trial and error really from the sound of it but I'm definatly leaning towards the Quattro.

                Many thanks everyone!

                    quattro

i have had my equipment for three weeks now and i have quattro mask and i find it great......have to say i have had no experience of other masks but the quattro is comfy and easy to clean, and once you have it fitted to your liking leaks are minimal.

hope you find your Mr 'right' mask...lol

I would like to try a full face gel mask, it might be gentler on the face.

I found the gel "mojo" comfortable but it seems to leak no end. I think from everyones comments that the Quattro is the way to go

Oh and by the way, it's great to find other people to talk to about CPAP etc, at least i'm not alone so thanks everyone

I originally was given a flexifit 462? mask but had no end of problems with it. now use mirage quattro and find it great.
                          good luck in your quest

                            I'm Happy

Hi Everyone, I am still using my Bravo Nasal Pillow System and am very happy with it, Seldom leaks or need adjustments, no nose or other sores, and I am getting 8 or 9 hours of sleep a night. Unfortunately I have to wake up after about 5 hours to check my blood sugar. I use a litely stuffed feather pillow, and scrunch it up any way I like it--so it works well with the mask, as I am a side sleeper. Doing well here. Best Wishes, Berneta

                              Fire up the Quattro!

I've got the Mirage Quattro. Not sure there is ANY mask that will be absolutely IDEAL and trouble free but the quattro does have a lot of adjustment range. At first I had all sorts of leaks and issues but some good support from my centre and a fitting seession that was very helpful. Now I've found the "just right" setting for my peculiar features and I'm quite ok with it now. The silicon "lips" seem to seal well and it all comes apart for cleaning.
As with all these you cannot really move about without disturbing the seal so you need to find a "nesting" position that's comfy. When it works it will knock you out so won't need to worry about it.
We've all found them weird and disturbing at first but keep battling on, eventually you will get used to it, especially when it starts to work for you.
