  • Difficulty using the machine after getting up during the night.

Hi all, another newbie question please!

I am in my first week of using a Brevida Nasal Pillows CPAP Mask with the SleepStyle Humidified Auto CPAP after being diagnosed with severe sleep apnea and am having mixed results. I took the recommendation of sitting reading for a while before sleep and find initially dropping off to not be a problem but after getting up in the night to use the loo I just cannot continue to use the mask. After putting the mask back on I feel that I cannot get enough air through my nose and that the air there is is uncomfortably warm so I end up gulping air into my mouth. I am trying to persevere but I have not had a single success yet so my nights so far have been 3 or 4 hours on the cpap (which is much better sleep than before) then back to how it was before diagnosis.

Apart from not getting enough quality sleep still, I am worried that I will still be suffering from all the ill effects of apnea. I am sure perseverance will be the answer but I am asking here just in case there are some great tips I can use to help me get over this problem.

    cheers all.

    Good Morning,

    Thank you for your post.

Can I check you are using the right type of mask for how you breathe? If you breathe through your nose only then you can use a nasal mask. If you breathe through your nose and mouth (ie if you snore) then you need a full face mask.

When you get up on the night do you switch your machine off and then come back and pop your mask on and turn the CPAP machine on?

SensAwake is a responsive ramp throughout the night. Do you have this feature enabled at the moment? If so I would turn this off.

Thanks for the response. I used to snore terribly but when I am sleeping with the nasal pillow I do not. I have considered getting a different mask to try with insurance so I can just keep the one that works best.
I remove the mask and switch off the machine and then switch it back on when I get back into bed. I have tried both with and without ramp but havent touched the SensAwake setting so it is on by default.

        Good Morning

        Thank you for your reply.

Are you able to turn the sensawake feature to off? And see if this resolves the issue?
