Cheers for the info Topcat, I'll have a look.

I've no problems with where I get the kit from, the main thing I'm looking for is a solution that works when the power goes out. The only other one I've seen with a built in battery pack is the Everest2 and that comes in at well over twice the price of the BreatheX.

The first machine they supplied me with had a battery problem. I tested the repalcement last night and got 10 hours plus at 8cmH20. I have a Fisher Paykel full face mask and it appears to work well with that.

I looked at the Everest (which my NHS Trust supports) but as you say it is more expensive (especially the battery) and does not appear to be as compact and as light as the Journey. The battery in the Journey sits inside the machine.

My main machine is a ResMed AutoSpirit which I purchased direct from them (ResMed) but is maintained by my local NHS Trust once a year.

The one thing I have noticed is that the machine is very quiet. The noise that comes from my ResMed is now noticed in the mask with the Breathex if that makes any sense. My specialist has never heard of the Breathex.

As a retired lecturer in Nursing and Health I find the whole area of OSA a fasciniating subject. You just wonder how many people out there are suffering needlessly from sleepless nights and disturbed spouses. Let me know if you have any further questions about the Journey.

It was a bit of a shock when I asked the specialist if it would be okay to miss a night due to being on the plane and he said that it wasn't a good idea at all.
I agree with your other comments. It is quite worrying to think that so many people may have undiagnosed OSA especially when you think how it could put themselves and others in danger.
The worst thing about it is that it happens so slowly that you just don't notice it.
I know that in my neck of the woods my GP was not familiar with it and it seems that Hampshire NHS do not have a specialist sleep clinic and my only option was to go private.
I'll keep you posted.

Good luck. Kingston upon Hull is well supported with a fully staffed lung function unit and Specialist. I've ended up with a string of complications, all of which could have been caused by prolonged undiagnosed OSA. I reached 60 and then suffered FTB Syndrome! (Falling to Bits)

Earthquake or other natural disaster in Warwickshire?

I'm depressed, no messages from Pinky and Perky this morning. Was there an earthquake in Warwickshire? Maybe the penny has dropped (it probably had a long way to fall!) No apology though.................
