  • EPR

Hi Folks, this might seem like a silly question but I cannot find any answers in the forums.
I use a ResMed S9 Autoset, with H5i Humidifier and Climate line hose, does the EPR need to be turned "ON" on an Autoset as mine is off, I was just looking through the settings to see if something was wrong (not sure what I was Looking For) just that for the past couple of weeks my AHI has increased and I cannot understand why.

    Thanks

Depends whether you like it or not and what your Pmin is. If your machine is set with a low Pmin, EPR is pointless. If your Pmin is high, EPR can be a great comfort.

If you don't know how your machine is set, go up to bed a few minutes early and experiment. Do you like it best on or off?

      Thanks Tigers Fan
The only two pressures I know are I think the start pressure is 4 and the high pressure is 16 but thats all, as you say I will have to have a play.

Pmin at 4 renders EPR pointless. The machine cannot relieve/decrese it's lowest pressure.

I also use the resmed machine but mine is an escape 2 with a humidifier. My ramp starts at 5 then increases over 5 mins to 12. I've often wondered what the EPR function was as it's switched off on my machine too.

The EPR is nothing to do with the ramp. The EPR is a function that lets you breath easier when your pressure is high. So if your starting pressure is 10 it will drop for a few seconds below 10 to let you exhale properly instead of struggling against higher pressure. As TF has stated though if you have a starting pressure of 4 then theres not much point as it cannot drop below this.
