  • Large Leak

I have a question about the information log on my machine. I've had my machine for about two months now. I check daily the readings such as AHI, 90% breathing etc. Since the beginning the machine has recorded large leaks at a rate of about 3% for 7 days. The last week it has jumped to 9%. I really haven't noticed the mask leaking too much. Maybe a little bit out the bottom. When should I be concerned about this? I have a Forma medium mask and it seems to be doing just fine, but at times it does seem to leak out the bottom. Maybe it's time to look into other masks. Thanks

    Hi IT

Question is - what is your AHI? 5 and below, don't worry about anything else except comfort.

The way you speak of it, the leaks you're getting don't bother you so I guess they are not bad. If that is the case, can you not adjust the headgear so that the mask does not leak.

With all of my masks, I can fit them so they are leak free and then with some very simple facial 'contortions' I can make them blow hard in all directions - and with a small tug or two at a strap, stop the leaks again.

Chase your AHI ever downward to 5 or below, be comfortable and you've cracked CPAP.

      Fault

Could be a faulty cushion on the mask? maybe trying a new one or a different mask may help

To stop the leak at the bottom of the forma tighten the lower straps slightly, then the crown strap (by quite a bit sometimes)

Mine leaks there a little, I don't use the forma every night only when I know I'm going to have "issues" (if I eat late, or have had a lot of caffeine in the day, or am congested, or I've got chapped lips) then I'll use it - mostly though I can get it adjusted to stay in place.

Adjust it with full pressure running and make sure it stays in place when rolling side to side and it should be good all night.

            leaks

I use a resmed activa mask, it leaks between 20-30 LPM every night, but my AHI very rarely goes above 5. Should my leaks be less than this? I've tried to re tighten the straps but ended with a cut on my nose, so I've just continued as is because my AHI is good & I'm happy with it. Could someone tell me if this is acceptable??

I have a little silicon nose piece I wear with it. That stops the leaks going inot the eyes. I normally tighten the lower straps real tight. Thanks - I'll try your suggestion and see how it works. I use the forma mask every night and until recently haven't had a problem. I'm due for a new mask in a month. Maybe at that time I'll try a few other options. IT

                      WOW

That is the biggest leek I have ever seen. Amazing! Are they good to eat when that big? We have nothing in the states that compares with that. Or at least none that I have heard about. Happy you played your big "leek joke! x Berneta
