  • Some Advice Please

I had the classic symptoms of Sleep Apneoa, Stopping breathing at night, night sweats, violent movements, snoring, so last JulyI went through the NHS system and ended up with a CPAP machine. Within a few weeks, after getting use to the machine the previous mentioned symptoms dissappeared, however since Christmas my partner has said the symptoms have started to return. The machine seems to be working okay, the mask, which is a nasal one, does not seem to be leaking nor are there any leaks in the tube. My weight has also not changed.
I was wondering can the body somehow get use to the machine and "override" it's benefits? Or would a full face mask help? Or has anyone got any ideas.
I have spoken to the clinic but don't seem to be much help.
    Thanks.

    Hi Steve.

Requirements can change - I suggest popping back to your clinic and seeing what they say.

i had same problem and rang sleep clinic.
they suggested a sleep study to put my mind at ease.
this proved that cpap was indeed working and was down to 1.75 apneas on average an hour thro night.
it was suggested i now go to gp for fullbloods etc as i was told i was pre-diabetic over 6 months ago, and this could be the cause of my tiredness.
i would ring them back and ask to be checked out.

          Changes

Hi Steveuk, WE can change for so many reasonns. Like everone else, I suggest a check-up. If your machine has a Smart Card that records sleep patterns and AHI's, then you should have it read. Good Luck, Berneta

            help from sleep clinic

I re-visited my local sleep clinic today because I wasn't convinced that I was getting the best out of CPAP. Pretty much a waste of time; they simply said to being the same points up at my annual review in April. I am borderline compliant for DVLA purposes.
Only good thing is that they are going to give me a replacement Liberty Mirage mask in April so I don't have to fork out for another one.
I have had much more help from this forum than anywhere else.

You'll indeed want some stats to confirm this.

Either form the machine if it has reporting facilities or through a follow-up study whilst using the machine. It may need some tweaking or the mask has worn out for example. The data will provide more clues.
