  • Resmed S8 escape II

Hi everybody, I have just been issued with my New prescription machine from the London Chest Hospital and it's a Resmed S8 Escape II it's almost silent a small compact machine which runs on dual voltage ideal if you go abroad, with the mask supplied which has several adjustment points removable jell face pad for easy cleaning the contour and fit is so good there is no air escape. the best machine and mask I have had in 10 years of suffering with CPAP.

    Regards all Rob

    I agree,
I have that machine too, with a humidifier, and it is really quiet and the mask is ok too (Mirage quattro) but for some reason 5 months own the line I am getting leaks. Perhaps my face has changed

I've only been using a CPAP since March, but was issued with this model and the Mirage full facemask.

I found I got small occasional leaks from the mask, esp. if it's pressed against my pillow at an angle - moving generally solves these. Once or twice a week I wake up to find the pressure at full blast & air streaming out of the edges. When this happens I generally switch the machine off at the button, then back on. This returns it to "settling" mode and that's usually enough time for me to drop back off to sleep. If there's a better approach, I'd be interested in details?

Never tried any others though - glad to hear you're pleased with this one Rob.

        Hi Rob,

Resmeds RemZzz mask liners help a lot with leaks.
Reason I am having problems now is that I need to buy some more!

The mask wipes are pretty good too, make a better cleaning job than soap alone.

            Hi Jacky,

Wish I had lost weight! I am using a small mask already so nowhere to go from here. But it is ok, I can cope with a few odd leaks. At least I sleep now. Only thing is; I still don't wake refreshed and am still tired all day.
The cpap is working, I no longer wake up for a wee 10 times a night so my sleep is much improved. I am aware of waking approx every 45 mins but manage to go straight back to sleep. My GP suggested I have chronic fatigue syndrome but I am not going to entertain that idea. I am due to have weight loss surgery which I am sure will improve things even further but in all honesty I am scared out of my wits. I wish there was someone that could tell me if it is the right thing to do. Times like this I want my Mum

Anyways, as far as OSA is concerned, I am really happy with how things have worked out.
I hope you have the same good results I have had.

            Take care

I am 6 days into CPAP therapy, I was lucky enough to be given a S8 Escape II machine and a Quattro Mirage Full Face mask (Med).
I can't say I haven't had problems but I am slowing solving them with the help of Somerset Lung Centre down Musgrove Hospital in Taunton and some research on the Internet. I have already swapped to a Small size mask and due to experiencing a dry throat researched the H5i humidiefier to go on the front of my machine which the hopsital have ordered for me.
As far as the other problems are concerned: -
                a) uncomfortable dry eyes
                b) getting tangled in the hose
                c) pillow problems (I sleep mainly on my side)
                d) plastic smell!
                I have solved
                b) by getting a hose stand that collapses for travel and is so light and easy to assemble and keeps the hose well out of harms way
                c) ordered an Ultra CPAP Memory Pillow (waiting to get it at the moment)
                d) odered and received some Citrus mask wipes which make the smell so much better and easier to keep mask fresh

As far as a) is concerned I would welcome any advice as I'm not sure how to solve this as it's not because of mask leaks but I think from the exhaust on the mask that I am getting the problem, I can't use a nose mask as I do breathe through my mouth due to hay fever.

All this aside I am feeling so much better, NO waking for loo trips, NO falling asleep during the day and at least 6-7 hours uninterrupted sleep a night, I feel great and have so much more energy, brilliant.

                  Ain't you doing well!

                  Hi pjgbear and welcome

Your dry eyes probably are, in fact, due to leakage. Try adjustiong your straps to see if you get an improvement. As you sleep on your side, it only takes a strap fastener 'wing' to touch te pillow for a leak straight into your eye. Hypromelose is a 100 - 130p for 10ml from any chemist - bottled tears that instantly solve the problem.

Olbas Oil and Pur-Sleep solve the plastic smell problem.

You could look into heated hoses and hose sheaths ready for the rain-out season starting in the autumn.

Thanks for reply TF, I had another 1st last night, after watching a clip on youtube about fitting my make of mask, I refitted mine during the day (when I wasn't in a rush to go to bed!) and slept through until 4:45am undisturbed, then turned and went back to sleep as opposed to taking the mask off like previous mornings and slept until 6:00am, so really great. I have had a sample pack of RemZzzzs delivered today and will try them tonight. As far as the heated hose or hose sleeve are concerned I'm gonna wait to see what comes with the humidifier, my local PCT seem to be very good and helpful and it may well have a heated hose already, if not, the least I can do is buy my own LOL!
