  • Yet another chest infection

As I am having yet another chest infection, since using CPAP, im going to start cleaning my hose ,mask and humidifier tank in Milton.
Im also considering using distilled water rather than filtered for the humidifier.
Its getting past a joke now as I had to be put on a nebuliser, this morning, as my breathing is so bad.

Using Milton is not such a good idea as its "changed" the plastic of the mask
    Grhhh .
And I was told to use Milton by the hospital.

      Every time

      Hi silvercarper

Did anyone suggest a dilution rate when the recommended Milton?

At any strength, it will affect plastic and whatever the mask seal is made of but at low concentrations, its affect is minimised.

As I remember - less and less accurately these days! - the Books of Words with masks say absolutely not to use anything except mild, pure soap.

You seem convinced that CPAP is the cause of the infections, but were are the bugs coming from in the first place?

The hospital said to use Milton.
I have used it as per instructions on the bottle which is half a cap of Milton to 2.5 litres of water. This is the first time I have used any other cleaner other than soapy water .
I dont no the cause of the infections but my breathing was so bad last night I nearly called for a ambulance. It was only after I used a old Ventolin puffer , that I found in a cupboard, that my breathing improved.
I hope it clears up before the close season finishes!

Yes I have been to a GP and have been prescribed Erythromycin antibiotics ,again, and brown and blue puffers.

It just seems that since using CPAP im getting more chest problems.Obviously other things happened , like getting "Swine Flu" last year, which could account for the infections.

Improving the cleaning is something I can do .

I do feel that my body is like a fly paper but one which catches germs but not flies.

                Everything crossed

                Hi silvercarper

A real long-shot but based on my own ever lengthening experience of being free of colds, flu and general British malaises - oh! and the TV ad for something that you squirt up your nose and it kills the germs that cause de dah. First Defense?

Anyway, during the couple of years-ish I've been using a Sinupulse Elite, all my nasal, chest, breathing problems have disappeared. It might be down to flu jabs rather than nasal irrigation, but incresingly I think it's the latter.

I have been thinking about the Sinupulse but my experience using a Nettipot has not been good.
