  • Medical Alert Bracelet / Necklace

    Hello all,

One of my friends who has a medical alert bracelet for a different medical problem asked me if I had one for my apnea. I'd never thought of it before but it kinda makes sense.

Do any of you have one and do you think it's a good idea to get one? If so, any recommendations of where to get one in the UK?

    Many thanks,
    Ewan

That's quite a good idea. I don't have one, or know where to get them, but I'll certainly search the internet for them. I would imagine Amazon or eBay would be good places to start. Also, maybe, Betterlife Healthcare.
    Kind regards, Tricia

Awesome. Let me know if you find any! I've had a look and haven't found anything that I like. Seems to be very few about. Quite surprised really.

I've found this http://www.hope2sleep.co.uk/products/37 and on eBay http://www.ebay.co.uk/sch/i.html?_od...s&_sacat=11778

If you Google 'sleep apnea medical alert' you might find more.

              bracelet - positive review

The bracelet is very well made and a nice combination of matt and polished stainless steel; it wouldn't look out of place on anyone's wrist, man or woman.

No instructions are provided for adding/removing links but simply stretch the bracelet and you will see that the links simply hook together. I managed to add an extra link without any tools although someone with arthritic hands might struggle. The links are very secure and it is highly unlikely that they would come apart in normal use.

The only concern is that the words 'Sleep Apnea' appear to be printed on the bracelet (discretely) and could wear off over time. I am considering having the words engraved onto the clasp of my watch bracelet.

Overall: well worth £10 of anyone's money.

                      Tattoo

You could always get a tattoo. It could be discreetly placed.

Something along the lines of "Hey, I've got sleep apnea"

Or a necklace or dog tag.

This would be useful in the event of finding yourself in a situation where you were struck dumb, or comatose, or similar and you were not able to communicate in any way to health professionals.

You might be having a heart attack or stroke, and wish to point out that you need your mask that evening for a good night's sleep..

Gotta ask , where would the discreet spot be......if anyone can do a sketch we could play pin the tattoo on the body bit.
On a more sensible note , upper chest as they might be checking heart/pulse. Wrist....possibly. Though having met several medical students over the years other spots spring to mind !!

                          Lol!

If I was to get a tattoo, I'd put it on my wrist, as that's where medics try to put a canula in for an IV.

Many moons ago , when I was robust with a full head of hair I used to drink in a bar in Belfast near the docks. A man had a lovely tattoo of a girls name in 3 colour with a heart design. Just under it had been added "is a bi*ch" in equal detail and colour. When I asked what the story was he said they had fallen out but the original tattoo had been done by a friend who had passed on and he didn't want to wipe out the artwork

I have a MEDIC ALERT necklace and have the SA listed on it.

Though MEDIC ALERT charges £30 a year subscription they hold what details you give them on file, together with Doctors names, with a 24 hour emergency number for Ambulances / Hospitals etc.
