  • Festival Power

Just booked camping tickets for a festival in September..... didn't think about how to power up my friend the Resmed S-8!
I could survive a few nights without the machine but I think fellow festie campers might get a bit narked with the snoring, choking and spluttering coming out of my tent
So, I wont have a vehicle to charge anything with and I don't want to carry a gas turbine generator across 100s of miles of muddy field....

    Any suggestions gratefully received...

    Cheers

Buy Product not found at Argos. Thousands of products for same day delivery, or fast store collection.

Not sure how much battery life is in one of these, anyone else used one?

One time baby gail (Apex 111 to use her formal title) packed up on me on hols and sleeping upright and those plasters that widen your nostrils got me through it with some sleep and not being punched by my wife (who also swears by Q Zone earplugs which worked to keep me alive even in my pre cpap days, or at least stoppped her from killing me). Possibly a chin strap of some type might assist too if you are a nose breather.

Other possibility, get fellow campers so drunk they won't notice the noise...enjoy the festival though.

Ps the earplugs are for anyone else in the tent, not for you.

You need to be careful using power stations and inverters as some CPAP,s will not run on the type of 240v waveforms they produce. There are 2 types "modified sine wave" and "pure sine wave" and you would need to check what the CPAP will run on

Those power stations aren't a good idea...the batteries are designed for short term high power, not for delivering power all night. They probably won't do a night, and the 240V inverter is just a waste; the S8 will take a 12v direct supply.

I use a Super CPAP battery pack (from EU-Pap) - that powers my Divibliss Sleepcube at 16 for 3 nights quite happily (the battery life depends on the pressure setting!)

            Thanks

Many thanks for all your advice - I didn't realise batteries were so complicaed (and expensive!)..
You've given me enough hints to form an action plan...
            1. I'll talk to the hospital and see if I can borrow a power pack for a few days,
            2. I will invest in an oral device and see if it does any good before I go..
            3. I will buy - and offer to girlfriend and nearby campers - some quality ear plugs.
            4. I will ensure all concerned are suitably relaxed with local cider and/or very strong vodka cocktails.

Thanks again all - I look forward to being able to report a great festival without me causing a rumpus!

              Festival Power

I would not dream of going without my machine for a night as last time I did I felt dreadful. I camp and use a leisure battery and an inverter. Works fine. I have only used for 2 nights but have heard from another user who says he got 4 nights out of the same set up. I have a generator but have not used it. If I needed to use for more I would ensure there was somewhere to recharge the battery on site during the day. Sure there is plenty of electricity at a festival and would recommend contacting organisers to ask.

                I've got one of these:

A bit pricey but Intus included a free battery. The machine is very light and small and the battery (the size of a pack of cards and very light) lasts for 8 hours. It's amazing and worth every penny.

Thanks Dead head - Festival is in 10 days time and I'm still undecided! I'm currently trying an oral device that seems to help... but it's not as effective as the good ole' CPAP.
I'll keep you posted on this thread....

                      festival success

Well, many thanks to all of you who gave me advice and ideas... The festival (Festival Number 6, at Portmeirion) was a fantastic event and I (and my girlfriend) managed 3 nights sleep under canvas without electricity!
The hospital had nothing to lend me, the oral device just wasn't up to the job so I took lots of ear plugs and alcohol.
Luckily I also took a 70 AH leisure battery (£60), a Resmed converter (£50) and my usual machine and mask. I got 5 nights out of the battery, it wasn't too much hassle to take and set up and the ear plugs didn't get unpacked - unlike the alcohol.
So, all was well that ended well....... may even go camping again!

                      Sleep well,
                      Stratters

Thanks for letting us know how you got on.
Does your machine not run off 12volts?
Be a lot safer if it did.
                        5 nights, good going

                          Hello all,

Do not let CPAP therapy ruin your camping or festival trips - Have you heard of the new Tracer Ultra CPAP Battery? - It can power your CPAP machine for around 4 nights (depending on certain factors including your pressure settings etc. See product listing for more accurate times) and is ideal for those who are going to be away from mains power for several days. Don't forget to order the correct 12V cable suitable for your CPAP machine before you go. Any queries, leave a comment and I'll get back to you right away.

                          Thanks,

                          Ellen at Intus
