  • ResMed Heated Hose

    Hi Folks.

I am using a ResMed H5i Humidifier and a ResMed heated hose, on Tuesday evening the hose failed to get warm, I disconnected the units and refitted several times and finally got the hose to warm up, but now it goes cold to the touch during operation.
I had not noticed this previously and the ambient temperature at night has been cooler, is anyone else using this hose and have you noticed if the hose is cold to the touch during the night, the part under the duvet is warm but all the remaining pipe is stone cold.

I have the same setup and have noticed the same thing but also noted that the water in the humidifier is still going down considerably. One night I turned off the humidifier and woke up with a very cold nose! So I have decided that even if the hose is cold to the touch, it is still doing what it is supposed to with respect to the air temperature and humidifier. As mine is a new set of kit, I did wonder whether the heat and smell of warming up that I was initially aware of was just the 'newness' burning off.

A heated hose is not supposed to feel warm to the touch! It's job is to heat the air passing inside to a temperature above the due point of the ambient (room) air. If it felt warm to the touch, you would feel you were breathing scorched air!

If the part under the duvet is warm to the touch, the hose is working fine. As long as you don't get rain-out, the hose is working fine.

For the new smell, try a few drops of Olbas Oil on a pad by the air intake, or a few drops of one of the Pur-Sleep oils. The former helps deal with congestion and the latter for sweet dreams.

Thanks Tigers Fan, since having the machine the ambeiant night temp had been warm so I had not noticed the hose, and then the first cold night we had i could not sleep and was touching the hose and it was cold so thought something was wrong. Thanks.

          Hi:
Just joined this forum after speaking to Resmed: Must admit wasnt aware there was a forum !!
At present I'm using a Autoset S8 + humidifer and suffering with congestion in the morning - thinking about buying the new system that Resmed are selling partly to help with rainout and partly as Ive had my system a few years now.
One question though: Tigers Fan you were talking about Oilbas Oil on the air intake pad: I didnt think you could do this?? Had asked Resmed and felt sure they had said no. Does it help ?? Think this would be what I need as I sleep ok but......

Not on the air intake pad/filter! A pad by the air intake - I use a folded tissue.

Beware putting anything in or on your machine - it is hard to remove quickly if you put too much in and you may cause damage to the machine, invalidate any warranty.

Intus sell oils that come with discs and a little stand that you put by the air intake and they are lovely. All sort of smells, some for colds and some for a nice experience and you can adjust how strong you want them by how close you put the stand.
There is a little set that has about 10 different ones in a pack so you can try them all and decide what you like best before getting a bigger pottle.
I'm sure James will be happy to advise.

                cold nights = warm hose

The whole point of a heated hose is that it keeps the air in the tube warm enough to stop condensation forming. With S9 ClimateLine the tube has a sensor at the mask end which measures the air temperature and adjusts the heating element accordingly. On cold nights the tube feels warm as you would expect.

Intus Healthcare sell Pur Sleep oils. I bought the 'beginners' pack originally which had trial samples of about a dozen different aromas. My favourites are 'Calm' and 'Peace'. I have now bought large bottles of these from Intus and use them regularly on the special pads provided in the original pack. They are very economical to use as you only need one or two drops on the pad which is then placed in the holder near to the air intake of the machine.

                        Oils

Many thanks I will check out the site - I can then update with my results.
                        I have meanwhile ordered a new S9 Autoset + H5i Humidifier.
Hopefully I get on well with it after my old S8

The S9 and humidifier is the set up I am now using and I am delighted with it. I hope that it works for you too!

                            S9 + H5i

First night after the new machine.
Didnt use the humidifier, break myself into it. But how quiet - amazing is the S9. At first I kept lifting the mask just to check that the machine was still pumping air. I felt sure that I was reciving more air and not so much escaping. Early days yet but full of promise.

hi guys, i too have a climateline and noticed it gets warm at first and then seems to go cold during the night so i wondered if this was ok. from reading the posts it seems that it is. no sneezing bleeding nose or irritation since getting the humidifier and climate line. pity the tech guys at the clinic said nothing about a humidifier or climateline which i found out about on my own. regards to all.
