  • Night Fishing

I am on the right forum!!!! I would like to do some night fishing again.
Since I have been using CPAP I have not night fished as I have not got myself a battery .
I am thinking about buying a battery powered fishing barrow/trolley so I am wondering if I could use the battery on the barrow/trolley to power my CPAP.
I am just thinking if its a possibility.
I have checked the battery specs. on one barrow which are 12v 17AH.

    Ermmmm .....

    Hi silvercarper

Forgive my ignorance - what is the point of night fishing if you are asleep? It sounds like the reverse of going to bed and slinging a hook onto the carpet!

Anyway - are yoiu asking for technical help? If you are; which CPAP machine do you have and do you know a webpage with its tech spec? Also, how many hours would you use CPAP andf how great a distance would the cart have to run on batteries on the way home, presumably heavily laden with fish?

My Remstar has maximum rating of 3A which at the pressures I run at will probably be half that . So a rough guide then a 20AH battery should give at least 10 hours use .

By the way I am a carp fisherman which means that the fish are returned back to the water and are not taken for the pot.

Don't some nationalities eat carp? I am sure I read somewhere that they do.
Having siad that, my son fishes for carp too and he doesn't eat them, he also likes to go night fishing, although I could never see the attraction myself
Wishing you warmer nights to enjoy your hobby.

The theft of coarse fish from lakes and rivers is getting a major problem.
New laws are coming out to make it illegal.

            Herons

Will the new laws apply to herons? They emptied my pond of every Koi carp under about 8" in a week. I guess it took one to not see the anti-heron lines, crash into them - very expensive fish suppers on me, lads!!

I too fish regularly, carp lake and canal. Haven't done a night session since I started on CPAP though.

Theft of fish has been a major problem, theft for restocking elsewhere and also for eating. The influx of migrant populations from eastern europe has seen an upturn in the eating of carp as I'm told it is eaten regularly in parts of eastern europe. Apparently you can now buy it in supermarkets in certain areas of the UK although I have yet to see it in my local Tesco!

Not sure I'd eat anything out of my local carp pond either! lol.....!!

I meant to add, if you find a solution that works for night fishing, I would be grateful if you would let us know as I have a Resmed unit too and would like to get back to it when the weather's a bit warmer.....

                Thanks,

                  Lucky you!

Count yourself lucky we are still match fishing up here in Scotland. The carp are still feeding but the only problem is getting them through the hole in the ice lol

Some guy in the supermarket yesterday was asking the fish monger if he had any carp. The poor fishmonger was trying to explain that it was not eaten in this country and they were only fished as a sport but always put back but the guy was having none of it.
Maybe there aren't any left in the lakes for them any more

I have found that the batteries available on "field sports " websites are a possible use to power a CPAP for a few hours.
If I was up to doing "nights" again then I would consider them

If your machine has a 12V DC connection I would try it, just make sure you have a small fuse in-line and that you DO CONNECT it the right way round.
                          If you get it wrong
Don't be tempted to use crocodile clips as you are bound to make a mistake at some point. Wire it to a connection you can't plug in the wrong way.

                            Do NOT DO IT.

Warning, If your machine is a Resmed product do not plug anything into the 12v dc connection unless it is reversed polarity to standard uk connectors. Resmed have the outer +ve and the inner -ve, if you get this the wrong way around it will blow an internal fuse that can only be replaced by the Resmed technicians. Trust me I have done it.
                            Best wishes.
                            Alex.

The battery packs I have seen come with a cigarette lighter socket so I can use a Respreonics lead to connect to the machine.
