  • What is cost and availability of a polysomnogram?

In the Philadelphia (PA, NJ) area, I am inquiring what the expected out of pocket cost might be for someone with no medical insurance.

ALSO: if one is aware of a volunteer, experimental, training, or other facility in this region that would allow someone to have a PSG done at greatly reduced (or no) cost, that would be a thank-you-God-send kindness of answer.

I'm not sure about actual polysomnograms but there are actually ways to get diagnosed in the comfort of your home. Respironics do the Stardust:

Stardust® gives you the power to tailor cardiopulmonary sleep studies to your patient's needs. And that's the future of the business. Hands down.
    ResMed do the ApneaLink:

The pulse oximeter provides two additional channels of information—pulse and pulse oximetry—in an easy-to-use "little blue box."
    They also do the Embletta.

    Sleep Solutions do the Novasom:

Cleared by the U.S. Food & Drug Administration and available by prescription through Sleep Solutions' diagnostic service, NovaSom® QSG®; is delivered directly to the patient for unattended, self-administered use.
The NovaSom® QSG® consists of a bedside console and three small, comfortable sensors, which are easily applied by the patient before going to sleep, following simple instructions and voice prompts. The system can be used for up to three nights to collect sleep data, including respiratory events (apneas and hypopneas), snoring intensity, blood oxygen saturation, pulse rate and respiratory effort.
You should be able to get any of those prescribed by your physician.

OMG I never knew you could do that at home. That could have saved me well over £1,000 and a round trip to the hospital!
      If you can read this...
...at least you seem to be getting enough sleep to stay awake and alert!
