  • Didgeridoo

    Hello,

I thought members might like to know that the British Medical Journal published a paper in 2005 which showed that playing the didgeridoo can benefit people suffering sleep apnea. You can see a video of the study here.

In addition, a lot of people comment that playing the didgeridoo is very relaxing. Should anyone here be interested in trying a didgeridoo please do come along to our London Didgeridoo shop for a free go!

    Best wishes,

    Colin

Add a little singing http://www.singingforsnorers.com/ and we definitely have the makings of an anti-snoring band.

Joking aside, these things apparently do work. How more practical they are than CPAP for most snorers/OSA patients, I don't know! Not tried it myself as CPAP does the job nicely along with some general lifestyle management.

Didgeridoo playing uses a circlar breathing technique, this is possibly why it may work, control of your breathing would improve.

Wear a nasel mask, switch on, and just blow, now that one long note!

              Hi,

The study, published in the British Medical Journal's online edition found that those who played didgeridoo (15-20 mins a day) over a four-month trial period saw a significant improvement in their daytime sleepiness and apnea. Their partners also reported less disturbance. The researchers concluded that training the upper airways through the breathing techniques (circular breathing) and the very deep frequencies of the didgeridoo was behind the improvement.

              Cheers,

              Colin

Interesting-I play tenor sax, and found it helped my asthma-haven't played it recently, so maybe I should and see if it helps my osa? Maybe not when I wake up at 2am though?
