A new way forward to weight loss?

As a brand new member of teh Sleep Apnoea Trust, I received Issue 44 of 'Sleep Matters'. The lead article is 'Bariatric Surgery or Boot Camp? - An alternative to surgery'.

But Boot Camp is for stroppy teenagers on TV, right? Wrong! Google 'weight loss boot camp' and be amazed!

I'm not far beyond discovering that a week costs in the region of £1200 - 1500 depending a lot on the degree of 'luxury' - a word sprinkled liberally over the many web sites.

It has to be worth a bit of investigating though, innit? A kick-start into a new life-style - much needed new life-style. Even typing that left me feeling it's all too daunting to do it all by myself. Some gentle but asserttive persuasion for a week - they all promise measurable results, weight and waist - might just do the trick, start the ball rolling, as it were.

If bariatric surgery was the answer - make me fit, young, slim and handsome again without effort on my part - I'd do it in a trice. But I'm told it's only a tool with which one has to work - so why not try doing the work first, without the surgery? Because it's too daunting!!!! But with help to get started???????

But the week after boot camp when you have done all they ask, are you strong enough to keep it up for the rest of your life?
Never having a pint again? Never having another slice of toast with breakfast? Exercising every day even when you really don't feel like it?

OK,for a week we could all cope, but what about 6 months down the line?
If it were that easy why have you not done it before? Maybe you have, so why didn't you stick to it?

There are lots of questions, these are just a few.

      Happy days

        Weight Loss Camp

HI TF--after seeing your post, I googled "Weight Loss Camps" and was amazed by the price of some of them--but I do think that is the right way to go if someone can do it, At least for a start to get back in shape. I think Life Style Change is the only thing that will make a difference that lasts. Anyone who needs the support of a group and controled atmosphere probably would benefit from it. But then there needs to be changes made at home afterwards. Someone would need to get a diet plan, a Dr for supervision, and buying some exercise equipment for the home --and/or join a gym where you get group support. Either one would probably be expensive--but a week or two at a camp with follow up at home would probably have very good results. One thing though--Boot Camp won't make any of us young or good looking again. Fit and active would be nice though. And then if looking younger is that important--there is always face lifts, and other procedures that do that trick. What I wonder is: would "health insurance" help pay for the Boot Camp, etc? I want an electric treadmill and asked my Medical Supply Company if they supply them with a Dr's Prescription-- and they said they have never had that come up, and don't know about the insurance companies complying. So I am going to buy one myself (Growling)-- so I can get more exercise inside-- when the winter winds and snow start blowing here. I would join a gym--but would have to drive miles in bad weather so I don't want to do that.. But I do think that the Boot Camp idea is the first sensible thing anyone has come up with to start solving the weight problem that is becoming so common everywhere, Great Post TF!
