The DVLA decided they would address the letter, for my consultant, to a non existent department at the hospital I am being treated at.
When you fill in the DVLA forms I would suggest you make consultants/ doctors address as clear as possible otherwise the DVLA will "invent an address".
This has put back my driving again by a month

Its now been over a month since the DVLA first wrote to my consultant and they still have not had a reply back.
I have been on CPAP for 55 days now and use it for over 8 hours a night with hardly any problems.
I think I might as well sell my car as I cant see me ever driving again.
What the heck can I do.
The next appointment with my consultant is not till September.

I suggest that you go and see your GP and ask them to help to either get the consultant to act or to write a letter to the DVLA for you.
Worth a try at least.

Rock and a hard place

It has really got crazy now.
My consultant says that it is the DVLA who decide if I can drive.
BUT the DVLA say that it is the consultant who can tell me if I can drive.
Rock and a hard place!!!!!

Hi Silvercarper,
My advice? Letter to MP, then copy it to all the local newspapers, then contact your local radio stations, then your local tv stations.
After that phone the consultant (usually get receptionist) and tell them that your situation is about to be featured by the media and see what happens?
I contacted my consultant when I wanted to drive again, got the receptionist who told me it was not my place to say I was ready to drive and to wait three months for my next appointment. She wouldn't even take my details so the consultant could phone me. After I told her about contacting the media she took my number and the consultant phoned me the following day to tell me to get the DVLA to write to him and he would confirm I was on CPAP machine. I got my licence back within three weeks.
Worth a try mate.
