  • Advice on neck ache anyone?

I would like to know if anyone else has successfully dealt with neck/head aches? Any advice would be most appreciated.

I was diagnosed with sleep apnea 2 years ago with symptoms of regular morning headaches and snoring. I now use CPAP but still often have headaches which are caused by tension in the neck muscles on the right side of my head.

Sometimes I can go for a few days without any problem then may have a bad day or perhaps several days where I have a minor nagging pain that may flare up to a full on headache or even migraine. Before being diagnosed I regularly took painkillers but now use them as a last resort. Otherwise I may use heatspray on the muscles at the base of my head or apply accupressure which sometimes helps. I also visit a chiropractor regularly which again helps to some extent.

Up to now I have been unable to identify the cause. In case the CPAP wasn't being effective I requested an overnight PulseOx test from my sleep clinic and that was OK. For that reason I presume it isn't due to sleep apnea. I have tried various bed pillow combinations. Unfortunately my job does involve using computer monitors for long periods and I'm sure that doesn't help but I also get the headaches when I'm not working.

If anyone suffers in the same way or has found something that helps I would be pleased if they can share their experiences.

Try This - It works for Me!

    Hi Thrushwood,

I use a ramp pillow with CPAP treatment (you can get them from any good osteopath practice costs about £55)

The ramp supports your neck thereby keeping your spine straight (inline) when you sleep on either side or on your back (cannot sleep face down)

As you work with computers are you getting up and away from your machine for ten minutes every two hours? That is the recommendation for working with them - I also work all day on a computer.

Anyway I hope this may prove helpful - cheers
