  • DVLA incompetence investigated by Watchdog

    Hi

For all of us out there that have or may, lose our driving licence, beware. Contrary to some of the advice given on this forum, DVLA procedures are not straighforward, not consistent, not fair, could take a heck of a long time to process, and when your licence is returned, watch out for your vehicle classification. A colleague of mine had his licence returned (a one year suspension after having a fit) and his licence to ride a motorcycle has been removed. The DVLA deny ever having a record of his motorcycle licence! So, make sure you photocopy your licence before sending it back the DVLA so you have a record of what vehicle classes you are licenced to drive/ride.

The BBC's Watchdog programme are investigating a whole raft of complaints about the DVLA, mine included.

Good Advice - Take Several Copies!

    Hi BJ

Excellent advice regarding taking copies of your current entitlement!

It would appear that the DVLA lost a lot of records when they changed their computer system a few years back - many of my mates are bikers and MCN has published numerous letters high-lighting the same problem - if you can't prove it you end up having to take the new test, new theory test, etc which can be a huge cost.

My son has recently completed both his motorcycle and car tests along with "Pass Plus" (to get a reduced insurance premium) and that knocked a £2800 hole in my bank balance (he's at college) so keep several copies is an sound suggestion.

    Cheers!

      mmmmm Me Too!!

      Hi Brummie Jon,
It's been a while since I have visited this form, all is going well for me and the APAP is working wonders...

When I eventually had my licence re-instated, I noticed that I had also lost some entitlements, such as 16 seaters, 7.5 tonne vehicles and was told that I would have to satisfy further medical assesments whatever that means.....

To be honest, I was so satisfied at getting my licence back that I have never pursued the return of my entitlements...but I will do soon, now that I feel suitably energised enough to fight once more.....

I will read the watchdog blog and see whether it's worth submitting my case also..

      Cheers DB
