I have an idea how she feels. My husband uses a noisy oxygen concentrator and cpap machine and now I've been given my own apap. I find that running a fan in the room to create white noise helps tremendously. I know you can buy some small machines that generate white noise and you can place them on your bedside table, but I haven't found one of them yet. So for me, turning up the fan on the central heating/air conditioning unit makes enough white noise in the bedroom to cover the various machines. Good luck.

      Good Advice Again!

What a good idea! When it gets hot in the UK (something that does not happen very often I know! ) we use a fan in the bedroom and you do get used to it.
I must say that my Remstar is quiet but if you have a noisier machine (or higher pressure) the suggestion is excellent!

The very best ear defenders for use in light aircraft use the same idea by making a noise the same as the sound produced by the engine etc and it does cancel each our so you can talk with your passenger or air traffic control so the "white" noise is based on well established scientific principles.

Has anyone else got some brain wave idea / something else that could help?

The RNID sells Tinitus supression devices, which work by providing relaxing background sound including white noise.
        See here for an example

We used to do an excellent white noise generator by Marpac, the Marsona. Highly recommended.

You can also get a 10ft hose to replace the standard 6ft one so you can move the machine away a bit further.

Indeed, aromatherapy like with Pur-Sleep may help put her mind off the noise.

Yes, they come from the USA even. See www.Pur-Sleep.com and other popular CPAP supplies sites.
